Scariest movie you have seen?

i dunt watch too many scary movies but i think one of them would be the sixth sence and ju-on the orginal grudge

reply

The Muppets take Manhattan was definately the scariest one for me. :-)
Especially the parts where they sing. It creeped me out.

reply

It would have to be the original Amityville Horror. I haven't seen it in years..and my friend and I are trying to agree when to watch it together...then one of us says, "Jody", and it's over because we get the creeps.

Event Horizon. Very underrated horror movie. Some of the scenes are pretty intense if you watch them in the dark.

The Descent, it scares the *beep* out of you

I don't care if it did get 39% on rottentomatoes.com, The Grudge scared the phuq outta me. But this movie sucked.

The Grudge is pretty scary but the scariest i've seen would either have to be The Shining or The Thing. Both of these were terrifying.

reply

I would have to say Poltergeist. Im scared of clowns to this Day and Im 30! I first saw this movie when I was like 9 and I still hide behind a pillow when I watch it.... LOL!!!

reply

The Entity. Based on a documented true story, a woman is terrorized by an unseen presence, raped multiple times, and the haunting reoccurs even when she moves out to live at another house.

I take it alot of you guys are young on this thread. You guys are naming some lame movies that aren't even scary.

I'm 31 and i've seen them all...

The Exorcist

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre...original

Halloween...original

Black Christmas...original

Poltergeist

The Thing...Kurt Russell

And most recently, the Ring was creepy

It seems like naming horror movies you have to mention original or remake and that is sad.

I've never really been scared by horror films but maybe more by thrillers, like "Intensity" that one scared the beep out of me. Also like some mentioned "The Mothman Prophecies" creeped me out and lingered in my mind for days after I watched it, maybe it freaked me out cause it was loosely based on true events.

The Shining so far... and Rose Red a close second... I have a thing for Stephen King movies :)

The Strangers

It was more of a suspense/thriller. I mean, it scared the *beep* out of me because it was based on a true story/ or true events & that could happen to anyone.

Sick people out there that just kill for entertainment.

I agree. Many of the other movies require you tot suspend your belief, whereas the Strangers could happen to anyone in the wrong place at the wrong time. There were scenes when I would grab onto my friend and ask her over and over why we were seeing it.

reply

Agree. Saw it a week ago. Great suspense man, great suspense!

I've been making a WHOPPER of a "Movies to See" list from this thread!

Personally, I love scary AND suspense movies (such as RED EYE). I found the original THE SHINING boring--but the remake with Steven Weber (1997) was pretty good. Not scary, but pretty good.

THE EXCORCIST, which I was not allowed to watch when it came out, and was forbidden to read the book though all my friends were doing so, I found corny when I finally saw it as an adult.

As a child, I saw a movie that had me terrified: THE BAD SEED. This is the original with Patty McCormack. It was so disturbing for its day that a light-hearted ending had to be made to take the edge off for the viewing audience.

As an adult, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS kept me awake a few nights.

I think for many people, the circumstances surrounding the watching of a movie, especially those we have seen when we were children, have a lot to do with what we consider the scariest. I remember reading the "true story" of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and having to stay up half the night after finishing it scared to death. But by the time I saw the movie, doubt had been cast on its authenticity, and I no longer felt the fear I did reading the book. And now the movie's just corny (to me).

Anyway, though I like scary and suspense movies, I haven't seen many of those listed here--especially the foreign films. So now I am armed with a list to take to the movie store.

Appreciate you all. Happy movie watching!

The 1979 movie version of The Amityville Horror wasn't so bad but none of them are a patch on the book - I literally couldn't sleep for the two day it took me to finish reading it. I might have read it quicker but found I couldn't concentrate so well after getting to the pig-thing in the boat shed part. I knew it was hiding under my bed just waiting for me to close my eyes! :)
