Scariest movie you have seen?

i dunt watch too many scary movies but i think one of them would be the sixth sence and ju-on the orginal grudge

reply

not many movies scare me but Poltergeist and The Blob (1988) came REALLY close.

reply

I am not a big fan of scary movies. But Yes, I agreed the original Thai "Shutter" is probably the scariest movie for me.

reply

oh my god i thought that the ruins was so freaky and halloween the 3rd was AMAZINGLY SCARY!!!!!!- shuter not so much ahhaha

reply

The movie that probably scared me the most was The Thing. I don't know something about it really creeped me out, perhaps it was the enviornment it was shot in (Antartica).

THE RUINS!!!!!..... Love it... It really screws with your head.

reply

The Descent is probably the scariest movie i've ever seen.

reply

I gotta agree it was one of my scariest and all i watch is scary movies and comedies.

reply

omg yeahh the descent scared the poopie out of me,
its made me sooo scared of caves

reply

The original Halloween. (I'm 18 and still absolutely love this movie) My mom loves that movie and the first time I saw it was maybe 7 or 8. Yes, my mother let me. And even now, I consider it the greatest horror movie. Also, Alien, Aliens, The Shining, The Descent (U.K. release), and The Thing, Poltergeist are all movies that still scare me. But what scares me the most are Dane Cook movies and Seltzer and Friedberg movies. Scariest things I've ever experienced.

The descent most likely, and I have watched a lot of horror movies. I also felt tense during high tension.

Some ghost movies creep me out if I watch them alone at night, but only the first time I see them. I remember being creeped out watching Changeling, the others, the ring, even the orphanage. But they never scare me or make me jump really, just a feeling of unease. The original shutter I didn't find too scary really, I saw it about a year ago alone but it didn't make an impression on me.

reply

Oh man I love The Others. So great! But a really good scary movie I believe is Dead Silence. Man that was my all time favorite. I LOVE IT. YEEEEEAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!

Pan's Labyrinth was pretty f'd up. It was really more disturbing than scary, which is what makes me put it in the #1 spot.

reply

coco, then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Orphanage to you. If you are able to deal with subtitles then you are in for a nice treat I think. Definitely would suggest to watch it alone at night if possible.

Then again maybe I was just in the right mood for the movie, it worked for me.

The Exorcist is hands down the scariest movie I have ever seen. A few others that are scary and great films include Halloween(the original), The Omen(the original), Dawn of the Dead(the original), The Thing(1982), and for television I would say "Don't be afraid of the dark" is a really good movie that has many scares in it.

reply

Jakraver...You rock! As I was reading these posts I kept thinking, "I wonder if anyone has ever seen 'Don't be Afraid of the Dark (1973)'?" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069992/ Then, you posted it! I saw that show, on TV, in the early 70's. I must have been about 8. Scared the piss outta me. To this day I can still hear those little demon creatures whispering, "We want you, Sally, we want you".

Since then, I have seen just about every movie mentioned on this thread and none of them have really scared me, per se. A jump here or there, on occasion. I haven't seen "May" or remember "The Haunted". but I'll look for them now.

Another TV horror show that made me almost have a heart attack was a movie called "Curse of Bigfoot (1976) B&W version". The area in my house where i was watching it almost perfectly resembled the scene in the movie when the creature comes busting through the window. I was alone at home at the time and I think I shrieked like a little girl. I was probably about 12 at the time. Other than that, the movie is almost laughable. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074365/

Thanks for the nice words tripz. This movie can be viewed on youtube(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAfUbsSUDi0) so if you want to remember those childhood scares it is there for your viewing pleasure.

The Exorcist, 1973.

It's only rock'n roll but I like it.

The 6th Sense was more of a suspense film/drama for me. The ghosts didn't really scare me that much and a lot of it focused on the boy, the mother, the child therapist, and his wife's relationship (or lack of one) with each other.

Juon: The Grudge, Juon 2, Juon: The grudge 2, Honogurai mizu no soko kara (dark water), Kairo (circuit), Ring, Ring0:Birthday, the Thai Shutter, Ring 2, Chakushin ari (one missed call) and House on Haunted Hill (the more recent one) had at least a snippet or two I found a little frightening.

I think overall, none of them are too scary though. The US remakes of Juon, Ring, and Kairo weren't frightening, but they were certainly more violent. Having seen the originals, I knew more or less what to expect. Also, subtle, strange/unnatural, and slowly emerging or moving forms usually creep me out more than slasher, in-your-face scenes. The idea that a ghost can follow you anywhere and everywhere and there is nothing you can do to keep it from reaching you is disturbing.

reply

Oh, come on, the Exorcist was not scary. And no, I'm not being sarcastic, I mean we watched a deformed girl sit in bed for 2 hours. Whee...

Shutter absolutely SUCKED though. I couldn't wait for it to be over, cause I was late for church...

reply

LOL! Shutter did pretty much suck. They could have kept that. And I agree, the Exorcist was not that scary to me either.

I mean we watched a deformed girl sit in bed for 2 hours

LOL! So true when you think about it. And the Exorcism of Emily Rose was awesome. Not scary to me though, but I liked.

reply

Original Shutter. Kind of embarrassing, but I still can't watch that scene when he's taking pictures and the power goes out...

reply

I'd have to say the original of this horrible remake.
The Thai version scared the hell out of me.

reply

The original was better, but I still didn't find it scary. I'll say Chakushin Ari, the original One Missed Call before they added all the CGI demon babies...

reply

Definitely the original Shutter. The scene in the car where the girl is flying next to it makes me lol, but I still jump every time at the conclusion of that scene.

The Sixth Sense, Tale of two Sisters, La Habitacion del Nino(Baby's Room in English, it's from a spanish TV series called ''6 films to keep you awake'', check it out) El Orfanato, Carnival of Souls, Long Weekend, Repulsion, In the Mouth of Madness are some movies that gave me a lot of goosebumps...

reply

I would say the original (1963, Robert Wise) version of 'The Haunting'. 'The Shining' also comes close.

reply

I'd have to say The Shining and The Descent, although Poltergeist scared the *beep* out of me when I were 10, and now I'm 18...

reply

The scariest movie I've ever seen is hands down The Blair Witch Project. It's the only one that really disturbed me, I only watched it recently for the first time.
Also when I watched The Grudge I was a bit scared but it wouldn't scare me now and looking back that movie was crap. The Exorcist scares me only after I've watched it. The Descent was pretty freaky, and I love the Shining but I don't find it scary.

reply

The Ring without a doubt! Then The Grudge, Shutter, Exorcist and Blair Witch Project.. I watched them while i was alone in my bedroom. With full surround sound also. Can get very creepy

Otherwise me and my gf watch all kinds of horror.

reply

WELL I HAVE SEEN MANY HORROR MOVIES BUT 30 DAYS OF NIGHT REALLY SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME

reply

Anybody watch R.Point (2004)??? That was scary, especially when I watched this at 1 PM :D

reply

I have seen ALOT of scary movies in my life, but I stopped watching them after I saw The Ring in the cinema. I think the main reason I found it so scary was because I wasnt expecting it to be scary at all.
My mum asked me if I want to go to the movies at 9pm one night, I said "sure, what do you want to see?" and she said "The Ring is out, whats that about?" and I said "I dunno, I think its like Lord of the Rings".

....it was NOT LIKE LORD OF THE RINGS!!!

Other than that I havent really found any other movies scary. Ive seen The Exorcist, Blair witch (the credits were the scariest part ;P) etc. I did find What Lies Beneath scary though. I forgot about that movie till you guys mentioned it :)

One that wasnt mentioned: I loved Signs but my boyfriend thinks that one is scary.

reply

The recent ones I've seen were both from the Philippines. They are pretty good. I lent it to my friend at work who watches nothing but horror movies, and she said those two movies scared her the most out of all the ones she's seen. Anyway, rambling on here, the movies are Feng Shui starring Kris Aquino, and Wag Kang Lilingon (Don't Look Back) starring Kristine Hermosa and Anne Curtis. The 2nd one is a little harder to follow. You go "What the...this story makes no sense" and then you get to the very end and you have a lightbulb moment, and then you realise that it was actually very clever and twisted.

Must be the original Shutter from Thailand! So damn scary, havent seen the remake and am not planing to do so...

reply

Anyone mention 'In The Mouth Of Madness'? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113409/

Great horror, freaked me out when I was younger.

reply

I'll second R-Point - it had very good atmosphere, and was quite different from the stereotypical asian horror movie (only about 90 seconds of freaky girl with long-black hair, and it wasn't even a close-up).
