Why the hell did the movie have all these religious debates, anyway?

The movie was about HOLLYWOOD, the studio era, the ins and outs and politics and insanity of making movies at one of the huge studios at the height of their wealth and power.

Religion just wasn't part of that culture. So not only were the religious scenes intensely boring, they were completely out of place. I understand why some of the things that went wrong in this movie happened, but I don't have a freaking clue why they included the religious debates.

Use your vast IQ to explain why an amoral fixer would take any interest in religious debate, or why the hell the directors thought audiences would find them interesting.

your premise is already a lie. Amoral fixer? The one who goes to confession so much the father
says he needs to take it easy?

reply

You haven't even tried to address why the directors might have thought the audience might be interested.

As for the conflict between his moral pretensions and his job, well, that's commonly called "hypocracy".

i didn't realize I was on 4chan /tv/

"Hypocrisy."

Agreed with Otter.
But I have to say I found those parts the most interesting and promising.
They could have lead to something much better than the final movie.
Total waste the way they are, just a funny sketch that is not funny at all.

Cohens are overrated big time, most of the time they think they are oh so clever, while they miss so much of what's good about their own movies it's bewildering.
Snickering student filmmaking at its most juvenile self complacency.
Since they cannot grow up, they should stick to jerking each other off and let real men make movies.

i had the feeling there was a bit of an agenda hidden in there, making Christianity look dumb and judaism superior. its a cohen thing bro

This is one of those things that you would get if you were familiar with old Hollywood. Do you know how many movies those people censored? the studios had to seek approval.
