God DAMN.

This movie was *beep* beautiful. God damn beautiful. Everything. Just the rawness of New York, and the drama between the characters.

Maybe I'm biased. I met people in college who live in Brooklyn, and i've stayed there many times. Watching this movie is pretty accurate to life there.

God it was just such a blast. The WHOLE movie was an emotional roller coaster ride. I wish this movie never ended.

I am so *beep* floored right now. If there were one movie i wish i could emulate, it would be this. Everything was just so perfect.

If anyone else shares this opinion and knows any other movies similarly set in Brooklyn/Queens, with character drama like this, please let me know.

I don't know if the movie Kids is set in New York or not, but isn't that supposed to be a pretty raw look at teenage city-life as well? Does anyone recommend that?

I'd never even heard of this movie. For some reason I couldn't sleep last Friday night and this was on, so I just started watching it. Having grown up in Brooklyn during the same time period, this movie totally blew me away. It totally captured life at that time in that place.

As for other movies that do this, I hate to say it but Saturday Night Fever actually captures Brooklyn life in the 70's very well, if you can look past the dancing and music stuff.

Well, of course, it was Astoria, Queens rather than Brooklyn, but close enough.

OP asked for 'Brooklyn/Queens' which is why I mentioned it. A little different era though.

I, being 50, was so floored by this movie. It made me cry, it made me reminisce , it made me think.. Lessons learned, lessons not, time lost, children that I made, tried to Father them the best I could, in every way..To teach them, from experience...
Anyway, the movie brought me to tears.. A real real powerful movie...

I love this movie too. I never really liked Shia LaBouf before and when I saw this, I was like, "Wow, he's a great actor." But too bad it's only in this film. I'm not really impressed with anything else he's done. Battle of Shaker Heights was cool, too.

But Channing Tatum was the real star here. I had only really known him from She's the Man, before seeing this, so I kinda thought of him as that dumb jock type guy. I knew he was in that Step Up movie, but never really saw it. But when I saw this I was surprised to see he was a real actor. I love that line when he comes walking down the street and looks into the camera and says, "I'm a piece of *beep* It was so heartbreaking.
