This film was not your typical Direct to Video horror flick. I was quite suprised to see such quality for a low buget movie. This movie has just as much to offer as many of the mainstream big budjet horrors out there. Agree?
I totally 100% agree.i gave 10 for this "extreme bloody horror and comedy". I just watched this movie few days ago on theatre. And you know what? i was shocked! Honestly,i was pretty hesitate to pick this one before but,my brother conviced me this would not dissapointed and..BANG! I love my bro! This movie was the greatest movie which combined laughs and scream since "shaun of the dead"..wait! was that made by british as well? DAMN! They certainly got a good sense of humour...

Well, Hatchet was utter trash, so it's not hard to be better. I mean, it was stuck in the past and tried to pay homage to so many different horrors, it was terrible.
The Cottage however, though not great by any stretch of imagination, was far superior providing gore and chuckles intertwined, and lacked the horrible CGI of Hatchet. Definitely surprised me.
You can't argue with my logic! Well, you can, but I won't listen! www.angrymidget.net

This gets a big WTF? Hatchet didn't use CGI--that was all old school make-up fx. As for The Cottage, it wasn't terrible--but it wasn't that good either. 5/10
i LOVED Hatchet, in fact (this sounds terrible,i really do like good movies too) i think i've watched Hatchet more than any other movie... So if you think this is better then i'll check it out! But Hatchet, seriously, it's sooooooooooooooo ridiculous - "Run away, wait! i need to catch my breath! Which way?!? That Way! Ahhh Victor Crowley!" for and hour and a half, bloody marvelous.
This film is a bit "smarter" then Hatchet, but by no means more enjoyable. Hatchet is just more fun & makes fun of itself. Cottage has lots of build up before it gets a bit nutty, & even THEN, it delves into territory plenty of slashers have gone before.
-- The Cottage: 7/10 Triloquist: 3/10 Up: 9/10 Night at Museum 2: 5/10
this kept me entertained, hatchet did too. but i think the characters in the cottage are more rememberable. i mean i only remember the loser from the hatchet and the black dude.
I thought Hatchet was better. The main thing that brings The Cottage down for me is the blonde girl who wouldn't shut up. Granted, the best part was when she got it (and "you have GOT to be joking!" at the end) but Hatchet has more replay value in my opinion. I also liked Severance more than The Cottage also.
