mouth to mouth

I have to give props to Carlos.

After seeing what Benigna looked like after getting smashed by the truck, he still went in for the mouth to mouth resuscitation.

Much more terrifying than a boy with a burlap sack.

reply

Ha...I thought the same thing

reply

Yes, I thought that was a really stupid scene. What was he blowing into?! Her entire lower jaw was off!!

reply

There is a way to provide CPR to a person who has suffered extensive injuries to the mouth/nose area.

You use your hand to cover the "holes" --so Carlos had to make a cup with his hand to seal the place where the jaw had been.

And you honestly think someone is going to do that?

reply

You'd be surprised how far someone will go to save somebody.

Wouldn't you do it if it was a family member? Someone you loved?

reply

My friend's father was working in construction when a co-worker of his was smashed up pretty bad by some falling cement, causing the man's face to be disfigured, along with blood---and he (my friend's father) gave him CPR. He said it was pretty gross 'cause he got blood all over his face and in his mouth---but did what he had to do to save him.

Unfortunately, the man ended up brain dead, and his family pulled the plug a few days later.

But the POINT is---when in the moment, there are alot of people who are willing to do even the most digusting things to save someone's life. Not sure if I'd have the guts to do it lol but there are still many that would.

People who would rather let a person die than risk getting a little blood in their mouth/face should be shot.

The only excuse would be fear of HIV or hepatitis.

reply

That is EXACTLY my worry. Though, recently I took a class on HIV/AIDS, and I discovered there is a 25 day window after being exposed to HIV/AIDS before you fully contract the disease. You have to let someone know immediately, of course, and the precautions will be taken just in case the person did have HIV/AIDS. It takes a year before they stop the medications to make sure you don't have HIV. Though, nothing is 100%, so it still is a possibility you can contract HIV even after all the precautions in that 25-day window. The likelihood of that happening is minimal, though.

As far as Hepatitis or any other STI, I don't know So that is something to think about.

I really hope you never become a doctor. :P "Ew, that's not a clean wound, I'm not going to try to help her!"

Wounds in reality aren't always going to be pretty, a person who requires CPR isn't always going to be lying on the ground all clean and lovely looking.

Be aware there are people who faint by seeing the slightest amount of blood.
It's a psychological thing. I know somebody who has this.
These people mean no harm.. they can't help it.

Maybe he lifted the jaw back up and then cupped his hands around the mouth?

Either way, it was still pretty nasty.

reply

shannon-elements is right! If you recall, Benigna's jaw is still attached at one side, so Carlos would have to hold the jaw in place, then administer CPR and kudos to him for his efforts

Wasn't it really obvious she was dead? No offense but I wouldn't even go near her to give mouth to mouth -- did he really think she was going to start breathing again!?

But she DID start breathing again! - one last scary breath.

So the mouth to mouth obviously worked!

I'd love to see how they filmed that scene. It looked so real when she 'woke up'.

Yes, she was NOT dead yet, she had the strength to grab Laura when she pulled on the whistle.

I was a disturbing scene for me. Seriously, would you care to do that mouth thing with a woman with a disoriented jawline and mashed up face? It's like diving your mouth into the deep red ocean of blood and gore.

reply

Don't forget that Carlos was a doctor. Undoubtedly he was long ago desensitized to blood and guts and had an instinct to at least try to save lives when the opportunity arose.

How shallow can you be? I hope nobody ever requires your help; or you need theirs.

reply

I don't think he wanted to resuscitate her at all, i think he just wanted to make out with the back of her throat, seeing as how her jaw was out of the way and he could now.

reply

AHAHHAHAHHAH!

reply

That was the scariest part of the whole film!

fa real. Carlos is a champ.

reply

Considering the movie is dealing with "ghosts" why couldn't he do that ? Why would it be less "believable" in that kind of movie ?
