Why the archangel blade can’t be used to help Dean on Supernatural?

My constant thought throughout the last two episodes was: "Why doesn't Dean just kill himself with the archangel blade? Better than spending an eternity at the bottom of the sea."
But, I guess they need a complicated solution to stretch throughout the season and come up with a different solution.
My guess, right now, is that they'll, somehow, transfer Michael into Nick and drop them in the water.
