Glen Morgan hates the movie - 'It was humiliating.'

From an interview I found at The X-Files Lexicon. His thoughts are exactly how I felt about it while watching it.

====================================
Matt: The tone of Black Christmas seemed a little schizophrenic to me, or that was the impression I got. Were you happy with the end result of Black Christmas?

Glen: No way, and it's schizophrenic because Bob Weinstein came in and urinated on it. Really, there was a time where torture porn was the hot thing. You know I became friends with Bob Clark. You can throw that movie into one of your first questions. I loved that movie, and also Christmas Story and I learned a lot from Bob, and had his blessing that we were trying to make a version that he didn't get to deal with the background of the killers, and stuff like that. When Bob Weinstein came in and saw that, [he] was like, "We need to drag Michele Trachtenberg down the hall by her eyes." And I was like, "Oh, Lord," and I talked to my agent and lawyer, and Kristen about it. It was humiliating, it was horrible. I stayed to try and protect the cast and crew, friends of mine, and ended up taking it on the chin.

Yup. I talked to his oldest daughter a couple of times around 5 years ago and she said he wasn't really happy with the film. They re-shot the trailer only scenes behind his back and dragged a few of the actresses into it. Mary Winstead called him up and he was really effing pissed bout it. They also changed the tone of the film and script, made Kristen die at the end last minute etc. And on the special features of the DVD, doesn't he say something about being lucky to work again?

I've read the original script - it was never going to be an amazing, creepy movie. The script was better than the film...but it was still bad.

reply

Yeah, this was doomed from the beginning.

reply

I have no trouble believing that. It's too easy for Morgan to blame Weinstein.

reply

Well the worst part WAS the abysmal backstory so....

reply

I could see why. Although I still like this movie, its a fun mindless slasher.

reply

Too bad for him, its a fun christmas movie. The backstory is great, cheesy and creepy.

The backstory is great

The movie is fun, but I do think it could've been better. The backstory would probably be the first to go, but also change the killer(s). Give it more mystery.

Bob fucking Weinstein.

He urinated all over Cursed (2005) too.

The funny thing is I do like both Cursed & Black Christmas...but I don't doubt they could have been even better without this wally interfering. Who knows, those films could have been legitimately special if he just let them get on with it. Cursed in particular is one of the biggest what-ifs in Horror history for me.

The funny thing is the main things this movie has going for it are;
- The gorgeous lighting and solid cinematography.
- The kill scenes.
- The cast. Very attractive women and decent acting from most.
- The campy-ness of the over the top back story.

Removing the gory kills would have neutered the movie quite a bit.

I'd agree with some other users here that the back story (including the goofy yellow skin tone) would be arguably the biggest issues with this movie. So I'm actually not sure if Bob Weinstein is the cause of the issues (as it seems he wanted a gorier movie and doesn't seem to have influenced the back story much?).
