I strongly disagree. The 1973 version is a masterpiece. In the original film, it revolved an island of Pagans. The remake seemed to create a fake religion, one that revolves around the superiority of women. Everything about the remake was just awful. Ellen Burstyn simply cannot replace Christopher Lee's character. The film completely separated itself from the original idea. The background score was awful, very cheesy. The acting was horrible. I respect Nicholas Cage as an actor, but there were even scenes where his acting ability was lacking and unconvincing. Plus "the bees" was just a ridiculous aspect. Nothing made sense. Even the final sacrifice scene didn't live up to the original. What made the original Wicker Man so creepy, is how the community felt so justified and convinced by their religious beliefs. They actually killed the Sergeant in "a nice way", which is what made the ending scene so epic. In the remake, it seemed like nothing more than a bunch of hateful women. The whole "the drone must die" chant was just lame, and completely steers clear of the original concept. There are so many flaws in the remake. Without a doubt, the original Wicker Man is the best version and always will be.
