You listed things that are different, but it's just as easy to list things that are similar.
- Their family consists of Man, Woman, Girl and Boy. Father, Mother, Daughter and Son.
- The whole family has to go on the trip
- The wife is constantly trying to argue against the man's plans and ideas
- All kinds of wacky shenanigans ensue, basically 'everything goes wrong constantly'
- The kids are not happy with most of what happens, and the father is shown to be a bumbling fool and in the wrong in most cases
- The father gets separated from the family and has to do a painstaking manual trek alone, that gets him dirty and desperate
- The father loses valuable possessions, and that leads him in trouble
- The family meets another family, that happens to be of the 'scary redneck' variety (cousin Eddie)
- The movie ends with police and powerful CEOs being forgiving / accommodating and making the father a great offer
- Both families go to a roadtrip that no one else wants to go to besides the father
Sure, the movies are different, but the very 'everything goes wrong and the father bumbles a lot' is already very reminiscient of the old classic. Don't tell me there are no similarities, because there most certainly are.
