Theories on Jenifer

Ok, Argento said that Jenifer was an alien. Now, what I'm asking is how do you all think that Jenifer wound up on Earth. Any thoughts? Also it seems to me that she has a power to seduce people. Like when Frank gets that cut on his hand, it seemed like Jenifer transmitted something to him.

reply

An alien?! Okay...I was thinking something more along the lines of a succubus. Though he never fell in love with her he did think more of her than he probably should have, to the point of bringing her home. She could seduce him, and even after she killed the cat and the neighbor's kid, and the freak show guy he would not let her go.

reply

I thought Succubus too. I must admit I thought succubus materialise during sleep, but her behaviour toward him, enslaving him sexually, sounded like it to me. I had 2 disturbing dreams in 1994 which seemed so real, I tried to forget but years later I tried to find out more on the internet.

There were 4 possibilites:-

1) Dream pure and simple (well by her behaviour certainly not pure !)

2) Succubus

3) My landlord's mum's ghost (as a young woman). I discovered some time later she had died as an old woman in that bed in that room.

4) Night terrors

Basically what happened was I was living in a rented room (bedsit) in a circa 1900 house in Putney, South London. I don't know what stimulation there was for a dream but one night I went to bed as usual. I slept but woke up in the wee small hours. As I lay there on my back, the room was grey due to a streetlight outside. There was the sound of the occasional car and person walking by on the pavement. After a little while, the room began to darken until I could not even see my hand at my face. It was pitch black. Then I began to feel a weight across my legs. I was completely terrified and lay there trying to be silent. Eventually, I summoned up enough courage to try to touch whatever was lying on my legs. I felt something warm and smooth. It felt like a leg, and by the size and smoothness, a young woman's leg. The leg did nothing. I moved my hand up and then down slightly and felt cold as I thought someone was lying beside me. I told myself to turn my head toward to look at the person, but I was too scared and kept my head straight. I followed the leg with my hand and when I came to what seemed to be a bottom, I hastily removed my hand. After what seemed forever, I decided to ask who she was, but instead of a whisper, my question blurted out as a croak "What is your name ?". I was beside myself with fear incase she answered. Then was no reply, but seconds later, I felt a finger with a long nail press against my lips, as if to say "Shhh". I fainted. When I woke, the room was back to normal.

I thought a lot about what had happened over the next day or two. It had all seemed so real.

Then two nights later, I was in bed again, with work the next day as usual. The familiar greyness of my room at night, a few nighttime street sounds. Again, the room just slid into pitch blackness. I thought "Oh no, not again" and this time I slowly felt weight on my middle, as the blankets were moved aside. This time the figure sat on me and somehow got me aroused. She made love to me as she sat on top and unlike with a "normal" companion, there was no caressing or light touching. But she wasn't rough. This time I asked her name but was able to ask in a more normal voice. She answered "Caroline". Anyway, things reached a big climax and soon she was gone all returned to the grey night. It was also weird because, had this been a typical wet dream, I would have been asleep, then definitely would have wakened by the shock of it and there would be evidence of my excitement on me and/or the sheets. But I was dry and so were the sheets and I hadn't just wakened by the shock of it all. That was the last time it happened. I did begin to hope she would visit it me but she never appeared. A few weeks later, I was chatting with the landlord's wife and she told me that the house had belonged to her husband's mum and she had lived in it for many years, since she was young. She had died in my room, in the bed I used. I was on the verge of asking the mother's name, but chickened out, in case the name was Caroline.

I never had the room go black after that or any other room for that matter.

The mysteries of sleep ? I wonder.....

Uh dude, Jenifer is a WORK OF FICTION. I can't believe you're trying to reason it out with your own nighttime hallucinations (btw, seek help, ghosts aren't real)

reply

[deleted]

Um, you're having hallucinations (or at least jumping to pathetic conclusions) and you're telling ME to seek help? You sound like someone who would be diagnosed clinically insane. YOU need to seek help buddy.

I'm (not at all) shocked that you didn't lambast KieferSutherlandFan for jumping to the conclusion that I am a "rude lil kid". You must believe in ghosts too.

Wait, gothbreed huh? Yep, now its all clear. look out for the vampires.

Some depraved army dude happened upon a female Predator and Jennifer was the result.

hexrei dont be rude ok? u seem very naive.

a few years ago i was at this party, and a guy there recounted the same thing. he said he was lying in his bed and a ghost lady or something, woman, in all black, standing over his bed, and he couldnt move in total fear and shock, and he fainted or lost consciousness. and he woke up.

im female and i hear this same story repeated by other guys , when i go out drinking and we talk about horror stories it all shares a similar pattern. so i dont think its impossible.

reply

Oh wow, at a party someone told you this story? AND when you were drinking with guys? Holy *beep* Now I totally believe in ghosts instead of the scientifically proven explanation!

HAhahahaha.

I love reading these silly stories from confused souls.

Sounds like he definitely had a run in with a Jenifer like being.

reply

I have to ask, is the question necessary.

Not once did I even consider contemplating Jennifer's origins, mainly because putting a label on something simplifies it, takes away the dread.

To me this is like asking what is inside the Pulp Fiction briefcase.

The truth is what is in there doesn't actually matter. It is just that it is desired.

Same with Jennifer... it doesn't matter what she is, just what she does to the people around her.

I think the horror genre in particular is best appreciated on face value. Sure, look to the works of Romero and the like and enjoy the subtexts but that is a different matter than exposition on physical plot elements.

I thought she was similar to the sirens from greek mythology.

Charles_Allen95, I would assume on her world Jennifer is normal, but here, men find her unbearably alluring because she is telepathic and took on the form of an innocent, harmless, beautiful woman that men would naturally want to defend.

Which is why upon first seeing her (usually from further off) whilst whomever is in the process of trying to do away with her, for being a 'monster' the gallant male rushes to her defense, usually doing away with the-by then lunatic sounding maniac trying to kill her.

So the human male gets a huge ego boost, and his self esteem skyrockets because TADA!! he single handedly saved a damsel from a fate worse than death you poor poor, mistreated, probably raped, beaten, deaf mute (sees her face) GOOD GOD who hit you in the face with a frying pan & gave you pirranah teeth Mutt..omg I gotta ditch this chick!!!

So then she sees her opportunity for survival, which is being cared for, she is after all just an over grown cat. She must be fed, though she can kind of wash herself. She exudes probably a phermone that men find an instant turn on, that overides frying pan pirranah teeth face freakitis, and then the next thing you know they're humping her all the time, and getting endorphin releases like they did in the prime of thier youth and wow they feel G R E A T!!!

Excepting for the fact that she's started to munch a small circus of animals, a preschool and varioius jehovah's witnesses and other unlucky people who just happen to knock on the door when he's at work.

So everytime he feels like he ought to have some humanity for his fellow man, instead of feeding his carnal desires, she pours on the charm, until her phermone's just dont' work anymore-read the novelty of a new sex partner wears off & like a when a person's body builds up an immunity to a prescription drug, and that's when the man's senses kick in and he's back to normal and because he was a 'good person' to start with, he's off to save the world by ridding it of the monstrosity known as 'Jennifer'.

BUT what they never did is show what happens say, 'Jennifer' comes across a psycho-like an immoral guy who just doesn't like violence towards women, but say he's okay with killing men, then Jennifer would be safe most likely.

Or what would happen if Jennifer got her spell on a person who was a sadist? and when her 'phermones' wore off he helped the 'good guy' kill her? The storey doesn't always have a happy ending for the wacko 'Alien'.

And who knows where 'she' came from.

Personaly I'd like to see if there was a 'Julio' on her planet that got lost on earth and what would happen then. That would be interesting.

If you look at the mannerisms of Jenifer she seems almost feline, watch it with that in mind and you'll get what I mean, and then there's the fact the first thing she killed was the cat, you can even hear her purr a few times during the episode. Just my theory. And I've seen ghosts before too. I don't know if there dead people or not but i seen em plain as day.

I ran with the dogs till I realised they were all mutts turn bitch when the dog catcher caught up.

I kind of had her as being from a hillbilly background. Real back-woods folk who are prone to in-breeding, eating animals not found in the average meat section at the local supermarket, and who deal in black magic. Witchcraft maybe, like her mother was a witch or something. I could see her with a family of freaks making potions in a big boiling pot filled with roots and dead frogs.

I did think the cut was a way of transmitting something to him. Like a pheromone, sexual hormone type of thing because it did get him thinking with the wrong head. When she cut him with those nasty nails I was totally grossed-out. She wasn't a woman into cleanliness of body, that's for sure.

Alien? That really did not come to my mind and I was a bit suprised when Argento mentioned it during the "behind-the-scences" DVD extras. That does raise more questions than answers, like how did she get here? Why was she the only one? She really seemed less intelligent than a human, more primative in many ways. Not from an advanced race with the type of brain power required to master space travel.

I don't know, I'm no help what-so-ever on this one. Alien was NOT the background that came to my mind while watching this one. That said, I'm interested to see what everyone else wrote. I never read the other posts first. I hope one of you all has a better understanding of Jenifer than I do at this point.

Retarded depraved alien whose own kind recognized as a mistake and dumped her off on earth like worthless white trash people dump pets in the country or parking lots.

I know Argento thinks she's an alien, but he didn't write the thing. Hell, Steven Weber wasn't even the one who came up with the idea. He wrote the screenplay, but the whole thing was based off a Creepy comic from the 70s. And the comic was much better. In the comics, in the last panels, we find out that Jenifer has some kind of psychic powers that let her control people (or just men?). She may or may not have caused him to break into the hardware store and steal the axe, but it does seem that she did cause him to wait for hours just until a hunter happened along. Then, she made him raise the axe and the hunter shoots him. I doubt she's alien, there's no plausible evidence of that. From the comic art, she does remind me of one of those backwoods inbred spawn with the messed up face and teeth and all. She seems to be perhaps a succubus, in the original sense in that succubi were terrifying and demonic. In the comic, the guy never willingly had sex with her (unlike in the episode where he couldn't get enough), she kind of forced herself on him. In one panel he says "help me..." when she's in bed with him.

So, I'll go with succubus. The alien theory is just retarded.

I like the psychic theory cus her psychically controlling him would explain why in the episode he walks around with her in the woods for five minutes and stops to kill her, oh so conveniently, right in front of a hunter, when he could have just killed her at the cabin.

reply

So she's like ET?

reply

Demon was what I had in mind when I saw her.

reply

Did Argento actually say that Jenifer was an alien...? Please, no, that would ruin everything. A Succubus, a Siren, or a simple human disfigured girl went cannibal, would have been more fitting choices. Alien? lol, I don't think so. There were no hints about Jenifer coming from another world throughout the episode.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

reply

I dont think you should really take his suggestion of her being an alien into account.

The film was an adaptation of an old comic of the same name, and the story is almost EXACTLY the same, just dragged out a bit longer.

The comic makes absolutely no mention at all of where she came from, and the intention was to be that you DIDNT know why or how she got like that.

So anything people involved with the film say about it can be considered non-canon I suppose.

reply

I thought she was some type of mutant or a humanoid-cryptid like bigfoot (but not bigfoot)
