The Flash named as one of the Worst Movies of 2023

https://variety.com/lists/worst-movies-2023/

Younger than the other members of the DC stable, the Flash can be a fun character, running circles around his fellow Justice Leaguers in terms of laughs and attitude. As the center of his own movie, however, the character proves mostly just exhausting, especially when you throw in the OCD device of dashing back in time to change the past. Problematic off-screen shenanigans aside, Ezra Miller’s got charisma to burn — though it doesn’t help that director Andy Muschietti torches whatever goodwill the junior hero earned with the gonzo falling-babies opening scene on a tiresome infinite-loop plot and terrible visual effects, trapping the immature character in a space-time bubble so that DC can get in on the already-stale multiverse craze. Granted, “Marvels” and “Ant-Man 3” didn’t fare much better, but in a rough year for superhero movies, “The Flash” gets a pan.

I've watched it three times now. Still a 7.5/10 for me. Great fun.

reply

Kind of amazing. It seemed like a decent film to me and it was very entertaining. More so than either version of Justice League and way better than Marvels Eternals, for example...

That first action sequence with Flash, Batman, and later Wonder Woman, gave me more of a 'Justice League' feeling in 10 minutes than I got from the whole of the JL movie.

reply

Agreed. And, while the whole multiverse thing has the potential to get old, it also has the potential - if anyone writing this stuff has the sense - to allow them to tell any type of variant story without all the "canon" crazed fans getting all upset that it doesn't fit with the last half dozen movies and the last half hundred TV things.

I would probably rank The Flash as the 45th best film of the year. There are at least 25 worse films this year.

reply

I thought it was ok.

reply

I QUITE LIKED IT.

reply

Fake news.

It's better than Oppenheimer, The Killer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and I can almost guarantee it's better than Killers of the Flower Moon (yet to watch that one but given it's run time, story and director I can't see it being anything special).

It's actually a top ten release for the year.

reply

Id say it was 2nd best of he year for me.. but I only saw 3 this year lol - Indy5, Flash, and MI7, I had no interest in the rest

reply

I enjoyed it.

Though, I won't be crying if they don't bring Ezra back what with all his off-screen shenanigans.
