Captain Marvel was way better
some like to claim that this movie was targeted in order to bash it so that it didn't post a threat to Captain Marvel but seriously this movie just couldn't compete.

shareI liked both movies. Both had strong female leads.
shareI enjoyed both. Alita could've been much better with more polish to the script and pacing imo.
Shame the filmmakers wanted to make a sequel but it doesn't seem like it's happening due to lower-than-expected box office returns.
"due to lower-than-expected box office returns"
Because it couldn't compete with Captain Marvel.
I think even if you take Captain Marvel out of the discussion, Alita had a rather enormous budget ($170+ million) and marketing campaign. James Cameron was even on talk shows and Youtube videos promoting it.
The movie did a very decent $405 million according to BoxOfficeMojo. But considering no sequel has been officially announced, and movie theaters also get a sizable chunk of that $405 million take, 20th Century Fox (well, now Disney) may not have broken even or made a profit. Or if they did, it was probably right on the edge. Studios look for significant profit/audience enthusiasm in order to greenlight sequels. I enjoyed the movie and wouldn't mind sequels to it, but I just don't think it made enough.

I don't know about that. Pacific Rim did similar numbers ($180 million budget with $411 million worldwide gross) and it got a sequel.
shareI enjoyed both Both were in my top 10 of 2019
shareAnd I’ll say it again: “Nobody ever went broke by underestimating the taste of the American public.” - H.L. Mencken. The only thing that popularity necessarily demonstrates is that something is popular, not that it is good. The OP needs to provide a cogent argument defending why Capt. Marvel is, objectively, the better film. I’m not going to hold my breath. And “There’s never been one more beautiful” ain’t gonna cut it.

👍👍👍👍👍👍
shareHonestly while Captain Marvel wasn't as bad as all those alt-right Youtubers claimed, I enjoyed this far more. It was stranger, the action was cooler, and although I like Brie Larson fine, Rosa Salazar's character was more interesting.
shareLol I never understood why SJW's were so threatened by Alita, probably because it negates their 'men hate women in movies' false narrative 🤣.
