OMG OMG (SPOILERS) OMG

I wasn’t sure we’d see her again so it was a massive thrill for me to see the fugitive, my second favourite Doctor after Smithy since the reboot in 05, return in the latest ep. I do wish she had a bigger part in the story, but still it was a huge surprise to see her return and it gets my hopes up that she’ll be back again to flesh out her story some more.

Proper!!

Yeah I was glad to see Ruth and won't be surprised if she pops back this series. I do think after the reveal it should have went to her as I'd love to see more of her.

I'm still worried that there's a lot to explain and 3 episodes might not be enough. This episode gave us more backstory to things like swarm but we still don't know who they are or where they come from.

There's speculation that Vinder and Bel are the doctors parents. Apparently the two hadn't seen each other for years with Vinder basically stuck out in space, yet Bel has remained pregnant all this time, unless this ties into the flux.

I do hope they don't go down this route myself. I feel a lot of what is hinted at is stuff that casual fans won't care about and there is a divide with the whole timeless child stuff.

We will just have to see though

Yeah I have to agree there’s a lot going on but when so much of it is exciting and so well written I can’t say I mind too much.

I too wonder how this will be resolved in three more episodes, especially since the trailer for ep4 looks like a Weeping Angels centred story.. but I have to say so far so good!

I can’t help feeling this last hurrah for Chins (and Jodie) is also a gigantic middle finger to the many, many haters that have trolled the series since he took over. He’s amping everything up to eleven and going out with a bang, and to hell with the naysayers. I respect that.

I do wonder if some of the plots will extend to the specials next year.

As for Flux, I admire Chibnall for doing something different. Certainly in my opinion, it at least isn't dull like I found series 11.

However I'm not sure I'm keen on where it could be going. I sometimes feel he's trying to explore the doctors past too much, in a way that could alienate new or simply casual fans. But it's hard to say until we get the full picture.

You might be right about the back story alienating people but without it what do you have except the same old, same old that can’t be sustained forever. Without writers and show-runners taking a chance with building a back story for the Doctor there would be no Gallifrey, no Time Lords, no regeneration, no Master, no Time War, no Bad Wolf. What I think the majority of non-fans and casual fans who know nothing about the show pre-2005 and complain that Chibnall is ruining the show forget is that it’s ALWAYS been about adding to the back story, pushing the envelope a little further and introducing new ideas about the origins of this mysterious alien. Apart from introducing changing sex with regeneration it was something that was sorely lacking from the Moffat era, in my opinion.

"There's speculation that Vinder and Bel are the Doctor's parents."

Could they be the parents of the Timeless Child, since time is in flux in this season's episodes?

reply

Could be but if the timeless child is the doctor, I don't want to meet their parents. The more we learn, the less mysterious the doctor becomes in my opinion.

This is the sort of excitement we want with Dr Who! I'm actually looking forward to the next episode.

I was really pleased to see Ruth again too. A proper Doctor!

Check out this nice little behind the scenes spot about Jo Martin’s return. Love how complimentary Jodie is about her and how insightful she is about her own take on the 13th Doctor
