'Hey Dog!' Pathetic Bale

Terrible miscasting of this normally reliable actor. His attempts at being cool and streetwise were embarrassing. Saying "dog" and "man" to your co-star doesn't make you convincing and his attempts were horribly amateurish. Another thing that grates is the way he uses an American accent off camera too. I wonder if his fellow actors think he's an incredibly dedicated actor or a pretentious twat.

he's not pathetic..he's a great actor, at first it was weird seeing him all "gantsta" but then he did a pretty good job..he's versatile.

It was a good performance to me. Hell, loads of people talk like that even around my area, and I live in Canada. It was realistic.

Bale is one of the best actors out there and this was possible one of if not the best performance ive seen him in. Sad you cannot see that.If you knew a little bit about him, Bale uses the same accent that he did in the film so during interviews and promotion of the film it does not confuse the audience and makes his character more believeable.

I am from SoCaL and Bale did an outstanding job portraying a white boy from the barrio. He isn't acting black thats how thats how white boys from the barrio talk and act. I guess you have to be from here to really appreciate how authentic Bale played his role. Also the PTSD was spot on, my brother is an Iraq War Vet. and hes a *beep* psycho just like Jim.

I'm glad I am not the only one who thought so. Christian Bale is a great actor but horribly miscast here.

Christian Bale is "reliable"? How about Christian Bale is the most gifted actor of his generation and I'm willing to bet the ONLY British actor who could pull of LA steet slang with some degree of credibility!

He was fantastic in the movie and he made the dialouge work, lesser actors would have looked ridiculous trying to make that work.

reply

If he grew up in a latino neighborhood he would speak like that which he obvioulsy did

I sincerely thought his accent and portayal of Jim was spot on brilliant, awesome, fantastic, excellent, one of his best roles=just my humble opinion!

I don't understand why people think his acting was pathetic in this movie. HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO its called acting!!!! That's what actors do. Maybe it was weird for them watching him act like a vato loco lol but that's what makes acting real cool watching known actors take on roles that you wouldn't think they would do. Bale's acting in this one is a great example. I'm Mexican and I loved his acting as a "homie" from the hood lol. Who knew batman was a gangsta lol.

Bale was fantastic in this. He is one hell of an actor.
The fact that people thought it was over the top or pathetic fail to realise that Bale portrayed a character who just was over the top and pathetic.

Didn't think the film was great but Bale was the reason it was half-decent.

reply

Wow. Get off his crotch dude. This movie blows.

reply

um, no he's great in it you little *beep* shut your mouth

Is the op suggesting Christian Bale wasn't simply reading the script?

I agree, he wasn't suited for the role. At the best, I could only imagine him as some kid from Britain who moved here with his single mom when she got married to an American. It didnt work out, they got divorced, and so he grew up in the 'hood from age 9.
He just was not believable as some 'white boy' from the streets of LA. His accent was a big factor.
Actually, at first I had thought him and Rodriguez were Army buddies, as an explanation of how they were so tight with each other. They didnt seem from the same place.
