Over acting

Am I the only one who thought Christian was over acting?

It's worth mentioning that I didn't finish the movie, in fact I didn't finish the first hour.

in my opinion Christina Bale`s performance in HARSH TIMES is absolutely outstanding and breathtakingly good, and I my opinion it is his best performance ever. It totally overshadows everything he has done before or since
and yes you should have finish it the ending had something i diddent see coming

Well then go back and watch the rest of it. It's *beep* awesome.

In that first part of the film, he's basically trying to slot back into the life and friends he had before the army. Hence the slightly teenage mannerisms - he's 26 and was in the army for 6 years.

Christian Bale, great ass! But he hangs out with that loser Freddy Rodriguez what a dork!

Mein Fuhrer! I can valk!

reply

you are right, and i watched the whole thing, utter overacting, very poor in my opinion

I find it hilarious to ever call an ACTOR a genius! An ACTOR!

obviously you have no *beep* clue what it takes to pull off decent acting.

also, if you think this is overacting you just might be having a rather poor and monotonous life experience.

yes terrible film! Everything looked contrived and forced to me.

reply

Don't go back and watch it. Please don't. I lost two hours of my life to this movie.

Don't listen to anyone who says this is good, let alone "outstanding." This movie sucks.

reply

You suck. And your opinion sucks too.

reply

So do you.

reply

LOL at "gatsu97" what an original, well-thought out and elaborate "diss" you gave me. You got me sooo good. School children *rolls eyes*

unbelievable..... i dont know much for a white dude from la.. but for a white dude from england....its awesome... 1000x better than eTHAN hawk in the other movie...

reply

No, ty-jensen, you are not the only one. One other poster agrees with you so far. Bale's performance captured the intensity of the psycho character- majority of posters thought he was great.

reply

I just finished the movie, and yes the first hour was painful! Every single time Bale said "dude" I cringed.

I'm wondering if I hated Christian Bale's acting in this movie because I hated his character. If that's the case he did a good job (I think he's a great actor by the way)

7 out of 10 is very generous.

I know it's easy to say, in response to a question about overacting, it was just the character. But in this case it really is true. It was exactly that character. Leonardo DiCaprio is what you call an overactor. More like an over-overactor. And it never calls for it. Well maybe in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. But Bale did not overact here.

reply

no, your pretty much on the dot. Bale is a brilliant actor, but this was simply not his moment. The movie was a poor vehicle is for his usual capabilities

He was overacting & indicating! Even he looked very uncomfortable in this character. But that's what the fault of the director! An actor is ONLY as good as the person 'directing' him. It's very clear he was not 'guided' into it. The whole movie felt pretentious. Trying to be arthouse/indie/gangster but just didn't feel authentic.

Even the dialogue was average, but it didn't match bale! the "bro's" and "dawg" felt very forced & unnatural, and frankly i felt embarrassed to see him act that way.

Keep in mind i'm a balehead. It's very simple, Bale was the wrong choice for the role, perhaps in the hands of a more 'suitable' actor this could have worked.

I also do feel the plot was weak. The whole movie hinged on the character's arc, and had no plot points to help him along. Thus the movie felt empty and boring.

Too bad, i wanted this to be bale's TRAINNING DAY!

"If the milk turns out to be sour, I ain't the kinda pussy to drink it"

reply

He looked uncomfortable in the because Jim was uncomfortable. The constant use of "bro", "dude" and "dawg" were supposed to be forced and unnatural because that was Jim trying to fit in with his "homies". That isn't who Jim was, you get a little insight to who Jim really was when he is away from Mike.

Bale nailed it 100%.

Christian was absolutely perfect in this role. He is seriously mesmerizing every second he's on screen. The guy just has a ton of charisma & his performance in Harsh Times was one of his finest.

reply

just saw it on tv, i think he did great job.

I liked this but I think it suffered from too many comparisons to Training Day. Bale was good
