Robin and Amita - ruined all episodes?

Did anyone else think that once they showcased Robin and Amita (especially season 5 onwards) that they managed to suck the life out of the show? There was less Don/Charlie and Don/Charlie/Alan time, which was the basis of making it a great show, the interaction they had with each other.

The episodes which didn't feature Robin and Amita (Robin especially, awful character) were much better.

I wasn't bothered that much by Amita but Robin... what a cold b***h she was. I felt like Don was just settling because he was tired of looking for someone nice. I also was not that fond of Liz... only because I disliked the relationship between boss (Don) and employee (Liz), Liz herself wasn't bad. As for Nikki... she was annoying and that was about when I stopped watching the show. I feel like Megan was such a key character and so perfect that her leaving hurt the show considerably.

Agree, I think that Amita was there to be a supposed 'role model' of women in academia and nothing more. There was no need to increase her screen time and thought she was better in season one.

Robin was cold, stiff and brought nothing to the show.

Still, Nikki was terrible with the fake street-smart attitude.

Also, in season one it's Charlie who created the program that can help clean up or fill in the missing pixels on video but later it's referred to as Amita's.

Favourite female characters were Megan and Terri. Thought both added to the show.

And I do also agree. I liked Amita because when Charlie got too much into his head she was generally the one who could reach him and bring him into the present. Peter's character was similar to Charlie but a bit more quirky.

I couldn't stand the character of Robin, she was out of place with the rest of the cast. I saw no chemistry between her and Rob. A flat one dimensional character of no use to any of the storylines. I think the other cop then turned FBI agent was a better fit, a much more likeable character and they had chemistry.

I liked Millie, she was a fun character and gave Judd Nelson something to do.

Amita was definitely annoying. Robin wasn't so bad.

I don't think the characters ruined the show, but I do believe any program will suffer when the writing takes on an agenda-driven tone, as opposed to writing to entertain. My observation includes agendas I support, by the way. I'm not referring to subtleties. I mean if the average person notices a shift and entertainment becomes secondary to teachable moments divided by commercials, and the result is an hour of instruction, then quality has to suffer. I avoid church for the same reason I avoid such programming.

I never had a problem with Robin and I actually liked Amita. You know what sucked the life out of the show for me? Post-space mission Larry, a.k.a. skittish Larry, incessantly introspective Larry, whiny Larry, monastery Larry. Once he got back from space he was nothing but annoying and added nothing to the show.

Those episodes are currently being rerun on ION, and I'm only being reminded of how much I hate post-space Larry. Every time he opens his mouth I want him to STFU.

I actually like the actor and was looking forward to his return from 24, but once he returned his character was turned into such a whiny, obnoxious turd that I started to root for him to be killed off. What a waste of time post-space Larry was. Just awful.

Robin made so little impact upon me that I had to look her up. I always liked Amita; she plays several roles in the series that seem important. I spent 20 years in the humanities side of academia; Amita fits into the world I remember, as do Charlie, Millie and Larry (even post-space Larry). Academics are a varied lot, so presenting various types seems natural, even if some do seem annoying.

I agree. But the one who was even worse was Megan Reeves with that Daisy-Duck nasal voice of hers.
