Have you seen the stage show?

I saw it in London last week and thought it was utterly fantastic!
Much much better than the film, the energy was brilliant! Everyone was up and dancing!!
Anyone else seen it?

What time is it?
Erm, 10:48.
No! It's sex time!

Yep, 5 times now (London too!) and I love it! You just want to sit through it all again when it ends! It's a very addictive stage show!

Yeah most tickets are about £60-ish for stall and dress circle seats. I have got day tickets twice now, once I queued in the morning and the second time I got to the box office in the afternoon, the tickets are £25 for front row seats, however they will sell other seats at a reduced rate on the day too. I have also bought standing tickets for £15 where you get to stand in the dress circle and watch from there...great as you are up and dancing!!

Oh and Leanne is fantastic!

Hope you get to go soon!

Planning to catch it myself. Hopefully, at the nearby La Mirade, Calif., theatre, at the Cathy Rigby (my teenage puppy love crush) McCoy theatre, they'll have the musical..

Do they do it with British accents or American?

Just saw it on Broadway this past weekend from 5th row center! Loved the recent film so much and wanted to see it onstage since the original Tracy and Edna Turnblads had returned. But, alas, the original actress for Tracy's character, Marissa Jaret Winokur, was understudied at the performance I attended. However, Harvey Fierstein was there and completely rocked Edna--he had so much stage presence!

It was also interesting to see how the stage version played out differently, in particular the scenes that had numbers cut from the film version: "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now" and "The Big Dollhouse" (the jail scene that opened Act 2 was hilarious!)

In the end, I can't say I preferred one version over the other. They both have their pluses.

I saw it in London yesterday with a group of friends and we were so disapointed with it. There were understudies for most of the parts and, with the exception of Edna and Motormouth Maybelle, they were all terrible. Tracy was so annoying and I couldn't understand a word of what Link was saying. The guy who played him couldn't act or speak in an American accent and seemed as if he was only hired for his looks. The only good thing about it is that we got front-row tickets for £25 because we bought them from the box office in the morning.

I was so looking forward to seeing it as I loved the film but I was really annoyed and disappointed with it.

I just hope Hairspray 2 will be better.

Young C.C.: Well sure we're friends aren't we?

Charlotte Riby was playing Tracy and Elinor Collet was playing Penny.

Elinor isn't an understudy, she is great as Penny! You should definitely go and see it again, it is fantastic!

No, but I am from Australia and it has never been staged here. However, it would be a good idea in my opinion, given the success of Wicked during its run in Melbourne in the second half of 2008.

One problem is that the producers would probably have to bring in actors from America to play the crucial African-American roles of Maybelle, Seaweed, Inez and the other supporting characters. However, there are plenty of very good Australian actors who could take on some of the following roles:

Penny - Amanda Harrison
Amber - Lucy Durack
Velma - Jane Scali
Link - Rob Mills
Corny Collins - Ian Stenlake
Wilbur - John Waters (Australian actor)
Mrs Pingleton - Wendy Hughes
Mr Pinky - Henri Szeps

I saw it in Australia twice in (I want to say) 2011? Maybe 2012. It was fantastic. I had seen the movie when it first came out, but I didn't really remember it, and my mother and I generally just see whatever is playing twice or so a year. The Australian production was amazing, I've seen a lot of stage productions, but this was one of the best.

The girl that played Tracy, Jaz Flowers, was phenomenal, she was an amazing singer, and a really really good dancer, so fast. I was actually disappointed with the lack of really great dancing in the movie compared with the stage musical.

Jack Chambers (from So You Think You Can Dance) played Link, and he was an amazing dancer as well, I wish it was still running. I would go back!

End of post.

reply

Literally? That would mean you basically saw it on Broadway every night for almost 3 years.

reply

I saw it once back in 2003 when Kathy Brier played Tracy.

reply

LOL- i need to work on my sentence structure- It should read that i have seen it over a thousand times including Broadway AND regionals, tours and ect.

reply

Yes I have. I saw it 2 or 3 years ago on Broadway in NYC. Tevin Campbell and the girl from 3LW were part of the cast, but everyone was great. I really enjoyed the show.
