Why did people cry during the church scene?

They were just singing a song. How is that worth crying for?

I cried during this scene, but it wasn't JUST because of the song. When the scene started, with the Pastor delivering the end of his sermon and then Brian's daughter singing, it was just 'nice', and conveniently relevant. Yeah, whoopdi-doo, Charles came to his senses - got over his character when Helen stopped beating the *beep* out of him, but when Debrah entered and started singing, it was at that moment that the scene became 'beautiful'. Just the fact that she had overcome her drug addiction to be with her family and then she returned to the church in time to sing with her daughter had me in tears. She just looked so passionate singing that part that I couldn't hold back the tears. I let out a sigh of relief for her, this scene was beautiful. The scene is about more than just the Song. I'm sure other people found different things in this scene to cry about whether it be their connections to characters, their religious values and beliefs, or just because they found the scene to be touching.

Some people are idiots who have nothing better to do than to start trouble.

I loved this scene. I have seen this movie several times, and I tear up every time. If someone has to explain why this scene is powerful, then you probably are not capable of understanding it.
