Why did people cry during the church scene?

They were just singing a song. How is that worth crying for?

reply

It wasn't the song, it was the triumphs of spirit that was going on. I'm not very religious, but I understand that song can be a very powerful way of expressing yourself and your bond with God.

That's stoopid

I wonder if we watched the same movie? The church scene was about more than a song ( I couldn't even tell you what song it was ) It was about how the family overcame their situations, the mother coming out of Rehab, the father letting his daughter sing even though he worried about what it would do to her *see mother in rehab. The abusive husband going to the front which usually implies asking for forgiveness.
I doubt you understood any of that.

reply

Don't say that's 'stoopid' obviously you are for spelling it like that. The song is by Tamela Mann called 'Father, Can You Hear Me?'. It would take too long to explain, but it played a huge role in that scene. Huge.

I believe if this truly needs to be explained to someone, then he/she still wouldn't understand. I'm not trying to be mean or rude or anything, but I honestly think that. That's almost like asking why Billy cried after seeing a dog that looked just like his, and come-to-find-out his dog died tragically sometime before... Some things hit people a certain way and don't hit others the same.

reply

Those two situations are not the same! "Billy," cried because he was reminded of his dead dog. You people are just crying because people are singing!

reply

It's about having feelings. I imagine a kid whose parents haven't spoken six words to him, ever, just parked him in front of some gaming system his whole life, would never understand why anyone would cry at that scene. Even after these nice people have already explained it to you, you only see singing.

Try not to shoot up your school, k? Thanks.

reply

You never heard a song or read a book or seen a movie that affected you emotionally?

reply

how could you not get emotionally affected by that scene? it captured all of the emotions of the whole film and it was everyone being together finally and overcoming their obstacles. the song was just the background. i hardly think you got the point of the movie at all. it really can't be explained to you.

reply

You got all of this from a song?

reply

That scene is very powerful, how could you not shed a tear. Everytime I watch that scene in Diary it reminds me of the church scene with Shug Avery in the Color Purple when she enters her fathers church singing "God is trying to tell you something". Gets me everytime(sobbing).

reply

OMG you are so right--that scene affected me in the very same way--God is Tryin' To Tell You Something" from the Color Purple and "Father Can You Hear Me Scene"! Very powerful!

I think Sidekick is just wanting attention.

Here... Take some!

"Will, I told you...If you live with a hetero long enough...You're going to catch it."

reply

Attention? From people I don't know, and will never meet? It sounds like you're the one who wants attention.

reply

There is not getting through Sidekicks thick skull. To even attempt to explain that it was not so much about the song as it was the scene and what happened while the song was going on would be a waste of my time and all of yours. He's got his mind made up and I don't think that any of us can change it.

Troll much? It's obviously what you been attempting to do with this thread because posters already answered your initial question ~ if that was a question at all. So not sure why we are still finding this thread being bumped. If you don't understand by now then you never will...been a year now ~ let it go.
