What is Piper??? Cromwell was the last name in the first two movies but in the 3rd and 4th, it is Piper???? BTW: However much I LOVE Halloweentown, the 4th movie is going to suck BIG time.

shareI was just noticing the Piper/Cromwell issue myself. I just watched the first 2 movies with my kids this weekend, and I don't think I ever remember their actual last name being mentioned, but they are always going on about how they are Cromwells. I think I must have assumed that the kids' last names were Cromwell. In the TV series "Charmed", they always maintain the Halliwell name even when they get married. I assumed it was the same with the Cromwells. I will have to go back to Halloweentown 1 and watch the credits again.
I just saw a commercial for "Return to Halloweentown" for the first time this weekend. I love the Halloweentown series of movies, and I'm looking forward to the 4th installment, but I'm afraid it won't be as good without Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie.

Wrong! It wasn't Cromwell in the first movie. It wasn't Cromwell in ANY of the movies as farth as anyone except Aggie. It was ALWAYS Piper for Gwen, Marnie, Dylan and Sophie.
Gwen is Aggie Cromwell's daughter. She married someone named Piper so her last name became Piper. She & her children are all referred to as Pipers in the movie when they're in "the real world" - when they're in Halloweentown with Aggie, since she's Aggie Cromwell, they're collectively known as the Cromwells. IMDB is in the process of correcting the errors.

Um, okay geniuses, most people change their last names when they get married. Aggie is the kids MATERNAL Grandmother (their mom's mom). This means that Cromwell was Gwen's MAIDEN name. Piper was her MARRIED name, and therefore her CHILDREN'S last name. Just because you don't share someone's last name doesn't mean that you aren't one of them. Are you all inbred or something? Jeeze.

THE MOTHER DIDNT GET MARRIED IN THE 2ND, SHE WAS MARRIED B4, AND HAD A DIVORCE OR SUMTHING... MAYBE HER HUSBAND DIED... I DUNNO, BUT SHE JSUT DIDNT CHANGEE HER LAST NAME... SHE KEPT PIPER CUZ OF THE HASSEL.

okay, Gwen got married before the kids were born to a guy with that last name Piper. Gwen's last name became Piper, and the kids are all born with the last name Piper. when aggie goes on about them being cromwells, it means they have cromwell blood, never does it call them "marnie cromwell" or "dylan cromwell" or "sophie cromwell". got it??
by the way people, did you notice that the character sophie isnt gonigto be in the fourh one, well at least its not listed.

I got into this same argument with someone here at home....IMDB info is always visitor-submitted, but regardless of what is listed here (or in the movie's credits, which I didn't check to see how the characters are credited), CROMWELL is the family name on Aggie's side (Gwen's maiden name), and when Gwen married a human male, his last name was PIPER (duh....women more often than not take the last name of their husband upon marriage)....so TECHNICALLY, the children's last names would be PIPER, and also Gwen's last name upon marriage would be PIPER....regardless of how the characters are listed in the credits.

As mentioned before Cromwell is the Family name Aggie is the paternal Grandmother and all the children are decendants of the "Cromwell" legacy. Aggie's daughter Gwen (Marnie & Sophies mother) is also a Cromwell by birth and thus her maiden name is Cromwell. When she married she took the last name Piper but it didn't remove her birthright to the name Cromwell. Gwens daughters Marnie & Sophie are thus still part of the Cromwell lineage however their names are Piper.
As mentioned before IMDB is a user maintained database, so it is not definative. If you look at other resources about these movies the character names are listed as Piper for the children and Cromwell-Piper for Gwen.
