Need more of these Christian movies!

It's nice to see a movie come out that looks as the Bible and isn't always about Hollywood trying to cram the THEORY of evolution down our throats. Even though I don't think its appropriate for anyone to act as the Almighty as Morgan Freeman did here, I think an exception can be made if it turns people into believers.

I personally don't think it's appropiate for any human to say how other human beings should live, which is what the writers of the bible did (IMO).

Funny thing from someone who's named after Clockwork Orange

"In the bible, God says how we should live, not humans."

You do know that humans wrote the Bible, right?

"Again, it's God's words, remember."

...as written down (and edited, repeatedly) by humans, so however you look at it, you're taking some person's word as fact. Now, the craziest part about this is that it's not just some random god claims, but 2000 year-old random god claims. It'd be like people 2000 years from now worshiping David Koresh.

"There should be every kind of religious films (not always evolution)."

None of that makes any sense.

Someone who actually understands my brilliance. That's pretty much exactly what I'd say.

hmmmm bible is not christian book, christians have the new testament.
bible is for the hebrew people = jewish people.

although Noah wasnt hebrew, the first hebrew person was avraham.

in the bible G-D says how people should live, not humans.

I'd like more movies inspired by Bible stories, but not direct adaptations like PASSION OF THE CHRIST. How about a movie based on ADAM & EVE but set in space... LOL

I wouldn't consider this a Christian movie at all. It was a total waste of time. Boring and silly.

Hold on a sec. I've got a few questions.

1. What does the theory of evolution have to do with Biblical movies?
2. How do you reach the conclusion that Hollywood is trying to cram the theory of evolution down our throats?
3. Why did you capitalize the word "theory?"
4. You do realize this movie was entirely fictional, right?

"I think an exception can be made if it turns people into believers."

I think it says a lot about both your beliefs and your (obviously low) opinion of others if you think that a fictional movie about an obviously fictional story would convert people to your chosen belief.

Regarding the title of the thread though, I agree, we need more of these Christian movies that contain retarded plots and no entertainment value whatsoever, as I think they help illustrate how ridiculous religion really is.

I don't think Evan Almighty qualifies as as "Christian" movie, and I'm a Christian. It's just a comedy with a religious bent. It could be used to start a Christian conversation, perhaps, but it contains no gospel message.

Christian equal Christ. Christ is not mentioned in the movie. There is no gospel message (as in Jesus died for everyone's sins so they can be saved by faith in his atonement). The main message of the movie is take care of the earth (and actually, according to the Bible, I don't think God is against development at all, although one has the responsiblility to be good stewards while doing it) and be nice to each other.

So, yeah, Evan Almighty is simply a family film with broad religious strokes that tries to be fun. No more, no less.

In my opinion, I'd say if people have a problem with it, it shows they have a negative bias toward religion, and if Christians think it has great lessons to teach people, then they need to do more Bible studies (I'd recommend starting with all the doctrinal essays at www.wels.net, for example, or their Q/A).

So, yeah, Evan Almighty is a lighthearted popcorn flick. I've seen better, but it amused me here and there. The one thing I did like as food for thought was the whole, "If one prays to get closer to their family, does God give them warm, fuzzy feelings or opportunities to get closer to their family?" bit.

i think it is a borderline Christian movie, comedy for sure...

seems like alot of successful Christian movies recently... like Fireproof, Facing the Giants, etc...

wrenage, I agree with most of what you said, including the part at the end. I think that was my favorite part of the movie, when God visited Evan's wife in the resturaunt.

"Spoken like a true moronic secular homo...............sapien. You soaked up your lib ed indoctrination just like a dutiful sponge."

Religious indoctrination of children is somehow better? At least science can be proven, has millions of facts backing up the theories, and does not rely on jeebus magical spit to explain things.

Religious morons hear this, we are taking our planet back from you and we are not going to be polite about it. Your time is *beep* over.

ps. can someone please tell me what the proper way to insert quotes into a post is?

It's not a Christian movie at all. Jesus Christ is not mentioned a single time. More like a jewish movie since the hero is effectively "Moses".

reply

How is this specifically a "Christian movie"? Don't get me wrong, I'm not hatin. I am a Christian. It's just that Christ is not mentioned in this movie. The theology in this movie was pretty sound, but it was "religiously neutral" (or perhaps Western Religiously Neutral would be a more accurate description). It's not a "Christian movie." The only thing that bothered me about God's portrayal was how He used a watered-down phrase like "acts of random kindness." BUT, the fact that He used that line just proves my point...it's fairly religiously neutral.

To revisit an old topic, the movie is referred to by some as a "Christian" movie because:

a. It deals with a story in the Bible,
b. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all worship the same god (the god of Abraham), and
c. Christianity is the most popular religion in the US.

Part of that 16%, chiming in.
