It's actually a good movie!

I think it's a great movie for your kids to watch and the whole family can enjoy. It has a wonderful message and I love how Morgan Freeman plays God.
It may be too 'religious' for some but the message is beautiful: such as, ARK (1 act of random kindness) to some of the great lines by "God"....ie in the restaurant and when Morgan freeman says, "Well I've got to go, many people to serve." lol.

You don't see a lot of clean and wholesome movies out there with a good message these days. Good movie in my book!

I thought this movie was pretty good too. I liked it more than BRUCE ALMIGHTY and you can't beat Morgan Freeman playing God...Freeman somehow manages to lend a dignity to the proceedings that helps you to accept a lot of the silliness.

I love this movie too. I have it in my collection and my two year old girl likes it because of the animals in it. Morgan is my favorite actor.

I consider 'Evan Almighty' to be one of the few occasions in which a sequel is actually better than the film which preceded it. "Bruce" may have been funnier, but "Evan" had a better plot, better messages ("Bruce" basically just had the one message of living with humility and gratitude for what you have, while "Evan" had a whole laundry list of messages, such as honesty, family loyalty, and showing compassion to those around you), and was at least somewhat closer to the Bible.
I do volunteer work with a church's youth program, and my mom recently gave me an "Evan Almighty" devotional book which I think will help me a lot in reaching out to the kids I work with.

You guys are weird.

I could not agree more, this movie is indeed good. Why is the rating so low? It is a different movie than Bruce, indeed, but not bad at all!

reply

I own both DVDs, but Bruce and Evan are very different films, and Bruce goes more for cruel laughs, whereas Evan goes more for the ludicrous concept. Evan is a family film, Bruce is a Carrey vehicle.

Shut up cynic. Try to find more logical flaws in a movie about God appearing to a man and asking him to build an ark.

It's called 'suspending your disbelief'.

Made you look!

Since the flood swept through the government district only civil servants and government pen pushers were affected. Yippee!

I completely agree! I wanted to see this but actually listened to all the critics who hated it. When I finally saw it I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it....Even more than Bruce Almighty. This is good, clean family fun! Also, Morgan Freeman is perfectly cast as God.

This is a refreshingly clean family comedy that is wildly entertaining, very funny, with lots of good, wholesome messages. I didn't know what to expect going in, but I wound up pleasantly surprised.

Bravo!

I knew if I look closer I would find a person that liked this movie :)
I really enjoyed it. I laughed all the time :)
And maybe movie is pure fiction, the animals, the picture is done in high definition and everything looks realistic, for me just perfect. Ton of cute animals :) Great family movie.
I rated it with 8.

I didn't like Bruce Almighty that much. It was okay, but as said, I found it just to be a Jim Carey vehicle. Jim Carey has produced many great comedic films, from plain silly to quite dark comedy. Somehow I found Bruce Almighty not one of his best. Maybe I just have higher expectations as so many of his other films have been superb.

Evan Almighty I had no expectations. Also I found a lot of the humour didn't revolve around the main character just getting back at people that had upset him. (Which Carey had done a lot better in The Mask.) Evan wasn't ground-breaking cinema or anything, but simple. It's watchable, if you don't take it too seriously. And the ARK message at the end was quite well done.
