What is the Significance of the Existence of Carmen's Assistant?

Why was she introduced in a way that seems she is more than a small role? Why do we have see in Don's point of view to notice her boots and her scratching her legs? What was that touch on the waist when she told Carmen that Snoopy and whatever guy was were waiting for her by the car? Was she romantically involved with Carmen(vaguely remember an interview about it)? I mean, why would an assistant wear such flirty short skirt with no men in sight except some men highly focused on their pets?

and Chloƫ Sevigny is known for picking roles that only interest her. So what is about that small character anyway aside for her to show off her beautiful perfect legs again?

I don't intend to be offensive, but I have to defend my opinions.

on wikipedia it says that it seems that carmen was having an affair with her assistant implying that she may have been a lesbian-judging also by how cold she was with don

I'm glad that I am not the only one who thought the same thing.

The whole Carmen episode was kind a strange. Didn't Carmen say that her 16-year-old daughter lives in Sweden? She sounded really sad about it so I guess the daughter is either with her father or run away.

Carmen and her hubby split up? Maybe after an ugly divorce the Assistant came to the rescue? Maybe Carmen wasn't so sure about her sexuality - and knew she would probably fall for Don if she would have dinner or a walk with him?...she seemed fragil.

I'm thinking you're a male? Just because you think that was a "flirty short skirt." When short skirts are in style, they're in style. I wouldn't, as a woman, think of them as flirty at all. Men think that way. They used to blame rape on the victim girl because she was wearing "flirty" stuff to entice him. Thank goodness that is not allowed in court, any more, as a defense.

Could be she represented the women of his youth, what he USED to be able to get/have, but no more.

I personally thought the assistant and the dr. were lesbians. But that was my take on it. Maybe that's not true.
