Doing a "sorta" rewatch. Something I observed....

I only wanted to watch seasons 5 and 6 since I've rewatched the entire series numerous times. It seems that each time I watch season 5, the better it gets. The first time I watched it, as it aired in real time on ABC in 2009, I wasn't blown away by it at all except for "The Incident" parts one and two. "Follow the Leader" was a good episode as well that lead into "The Incident" very nicely.

It seems season 5 has been highly regarded by a lot of viewers over the years, and I can finally see why over numerous rewatches (and my advancing age. I'm 42 now versus 28 when it initially aired). Some very intricate storylines that interweave throughout the proceeding seasons and even sets up season 6 nicely. Say what you will, even if you didn't like the overall story, but the writer's are pretty damn smart in the big scheme of things.

Season 4 on the other hand, I still could do with out.

I saw your post the other day and it inspired me to start rewatching Lost. I loved it when it originally aired, but I never really felt like watching it again until now. It's funny how much of it I don't actually remember as I started watching, it's almost like I'm seeing it for the first time.

I have to say that it's a fantastic show and I'm glad I finally picked it up again. I'm at the end of season 1 and I've been through so many emotions, I'm just absolutely loving it.

That's awesome, Olioz! Glad I inspired you. There's just no show like it, no matter how many times you've watched. I think I've done at least 6, but probably more, total rewatches since it's been off the air. No other show gives me the same feelings while watching it. It wasn't 100% perfect but it definitely offered something totally different than any other show I had seen and really got me emotionally hooked on it.

Yeah you've actually inspired me to rewatch the show as well. It truly is one of the best shows ever made thanks to the characters and the mythology. It had great twists, spooky atmosphere and it was never afraid to kill off main characters. The only thing that came close to Lost in terms of mythology since it ended was Game of Thrones but that final season was a rushed mess that made me feel like I'd wasted my time. With Lost I felt satisfied not knowing everything but having enough to speculate about the lingering mysteries whilst also enjoying the mysteries the final season did resolve.

Last year I watched Chronologically Lost. Having seen the series multiple times since it aired, I figured it was time to see the entire show in chronological order. Pretty amazing. Check it out if you haven’t seen it, its probably still out there if you search for it.

Some of my favourite moments from season 4 and 5 are whenever we're shown that Ancient Egyptians once lived on the island. We see Ben's secret room which is covered in hieroglyphs as was the collumn in the wheel chamber. We're shown the walls of the temple then later the tunnels underneath the temple then a mural depicting the monster with Anubis and finally the statue itself in 'The Incident.'

I'm just still blown away by this show all these years later, I love that they answered some things but left a lot of the mysteries like The Mother character and who built the chamber inside the heart with the cork (was it the Egyptians perhaps?)

As you said even if someone doesn't care for the overall story of the show there's no denying the mythology and world-building the writers established here was very clever and well done. How this show isn't on the IMDB top 250 shows anymore is criminal to me, for me it truly is one of the greatest TV series of all time.

If I had to isolate a single season as the favorite it would be season 5.

Season 2 is the one I could definitely do without.
