Time and again there's always some ignorant hater/ douche
12 people have replied to this thread, all of them have debated their points with maturity. Except one. Some of these people agree, many disagree. Those that have disagreed have discussed their points with maturity and backed up their points with thought out evidence. Except one. Can you guess who this gentleman is?
who thinks NO ONE knows Departed is based on a HK flick.
Quite a few people on this thread have admitted to not knowing The Departed is a remake. Did you read the other posts before keyboard spacking? You have no idea how the conversation has progressed. For all you know someone might have changed my mind and I may have relinquished my "hater/douche" ways.
I haven't, but you don't know that.
U guys just wanna say 'obvious' crap like that to gain attention thinking you've figured out something amazing that it makes u sound smart don't you??
I was expressing my opinion. I know we're not allowed to have those on the internet, but I thought I'd rebel. Everybody seemed happy to let me have it... until you showed up.
Everywhere u look up Departed, it out rightly states explicitly that it is a remake!!
This is exactly why I was surprised that a lot of people didn't seem to know. Like you, I thought everybody did.
And another seriously IGNORANT NAIVE thing about u haters ...and what is surprisingly stupidly consistent, is tht u fools assume Departed gained all accolades bcos Hollywood doesn't know it's a remake... and tht supposedly Departed just stole all ideas from the HK version... and Departed is getting away with murder!
This particular fool assumed that Departed was awarded Oscars as a political gesture, because they hadn't given Scorsese one before. This political nature is infamously common with the Oscars and it was widely predicted throughout critics in the media that The Departed would win for this very reason. Even if The Departed was as great as you say, there was still many other films that year more deserving of the award.
No, contrary to popular belief, Hollywood is very clever. But their principle goal is to make money. In doing so they make a lot of decisions that to us look pretty stupid. But they get what they want.
And I've never heard anybody claim that The Departed is a rip-off.
U ignorant fools just can't figure out a quality adaptation when it is right there in front of u simply cos of your obvious biase-ness. Those who aren't biased can understand/ appreciate it's charm and craft.
Me and my friends were all highly anticipating The Departed for about a year before it's release. This was one of our fave directors adapting a film we adored. If anything we would have been more forgiving. Yet still we were all disappointed when we finally saw it.
Departed gets all the kudos because it seriously is a very well made film in directing, performances and writing. If u idiots even bothered to do the homework you'd see (if biaseness is removed if cos) how Departed in fact improves on the original and is different in its own darn right!
Evidence? If you care to discuss your opinions why you believe it has these qualities then I would be happy to listen. Other posters have done so and I found what they brought to the table interesting. But you can't just make this claim without supporting it. And bear in mind, I haven't claimed The Departed is a bad film. I said it's ok. I admit it does have certain merits. So "Hater"? I think you'll have to concieve a different insult for me. "Douche" is ok though. I'll take that.
Recognition and accolades never happen because people are dumb/ ignorant... It happens cos it's real quality!
Then explain Renee Zelwegger's Oscar win for Cold Mountain? Her performance was panto-cringemania.
Accolades are generally given to the BEST in a field. Were Titanic, Crash, A Beautiful Mind, Chicago, The Kings Speech and Forest Gump all the best films of their respective years? And is The Departed really a better film than the same year's Children of Men?
