Did Frankie kill himself at the end of the movie

I think this is likely.
- His last words at the diner were something like “now I can die and go to heaven”
- Scrap talks about Frankie never being seen again and then says “that’s when a ghost walked through the door”
- Frankie never came back and no one ever heard from him again. Highly unlikely. He just disappeared? He prob would have gotten in touch with Scrap or his daughter at some point.
- he had a second vial of adrelaine in his bag for himself. A clink can be heard in his bag to show that.
- Scrap was hoping Frankie could find a place where he could “find some peace - somewhere between nowhere and goodbye”
- this would provide an escape for Frankie, so as to not have to deal with his guilt.
- he gets to be with Maggie this way
- scrap says Frankie has “nothing left” after helping Maggie die
- I watched the very last scene a few times and it’s not clear that it’s Frankie at the dinner. Even if it is, it would make sense that he went there for one last meal before killing himself.
- I think Scrap knows Frankie is dead and that’s what inspires him to write that long letter to his daughter.
As a side note - unrelated I think - how does Scrap know what happened at the hospital during Maggies assisted suicide?

Scrap seems to have been in the hospital when it happened. You can see him walking away from the shadows after Frankie leaves.

It's left up to the viewer to decide.

I just watched this last night and after some thought, I think Frankie ended up buying the diner. I remember when he and Maggie were there enjoying the lemon pie, Frankie asking out loud how much a place like that would go for - as if he would consider buying it (he did mention earlier in the movie how he had some money put away). I think to him Ira's Diner was special since it was for Maggie and they had that nice moment together there. I tend to think after all he went thru with Maggie with the training and the matches up until what happened to her (and after Big Willie left him), he was "done" with boxing and just wanted a quiet life away from it all and to be close to her in some way - and buying that diner she went to with her dad all the time was sort of like this "link" to her for him so he could always remember her. He may have also bought a cabin in the woods as well - something else he had talked about with her. He never mentioned the diner or cabin to Scrap, which is why he had no idea where he went.

I like to believe he went and found himself a cabin he talked about with Maggie. But your scenario is more likely.
