Publicity Stunt

i know a lot of people have been saying this was just a publicity stunt etc, i dont think it was because there are many occassions during the episodes where they start to get annoyed with the camera etc

i dunno.. i loved it and everything but there somethings i didnt like
i didnt like how they were trying to get free bikes for the trip
... those two are loaded! they could easily afford the bikes, i didnt like that

also what was charlie on about? '1 in 5 movies you meet someone who u will stay in touch with' and '1 in 10 you will find a friend for life' .... has charlie even made 10 films?

Actually, I don't think they made a lot of money off this project. They had to pay all the workers and crew and the producers and I heard that most of the proceeds from the book and DVD go to UNICEF. Also, Ewan auctioned his bike after the show for charity as well. It fetched a really good price, something like 10x what it was worth but all of it went to charity. So, no, I don't think they were being greedy one bit. They just did what they had to do to finance a huge undertaking in the limited amount of time they had (3&1/2 months) to go around the world.

I went to the birmingham bike show last year and the BMW stand was flaunting Long way round so I think they're happy they gave em the bikes and probably made so much profit out of it that the fee for the 2 bikes wouldn't have been much in comparison!!

Smeg!

I do not think it was a publicity stunt. I agree with many of the comments. I think most people would take help in planning such a hugh trip. I know that they are celebrities, and probably didn't have to hard a time getting help, but they still had to do all the rideing through all the terrible roads and conditions. I appreciate that they filmed it. I enjoyed shareing their trip, taking me to many places I would never get to, and meeting a lot of wonderful people of the world. They didn't HAVE to give to charity, but from what I have read about Ewan, and his love of children, that it came from the heart. [Charley also, I'm sure.] This also led to Ewan becomming an ambassdor to UNICIEF. I thought the trip was funny, serious, dangerous, and soul searching. I think they had a wonderful time, and I'm so glad that they shared it with all that are interested in them, or motorcycle trips. Thanks to Cladio, also, for the great photography. I enjoyed the DVD, the book and the coffee table book. Great reading and wonderful pictures. Another thing: they said that through this trip, they became more then good friends, they became "brothers". I don't think they could have said anything nicer! So, a BIG THANKS to Ewan and Charley for sharing this wonderful adverture.

I doubt it would be a publicity stunt, if it was, ever seen anyone go to that much trouble to do it?

Riding motorbikes is something both of them are extremely passionate about, and can you imagine the amount of work that was needed to plan and follow through a journey like this?

Ok, just to clear this up, Ewan and Charley took no money from the book or DVD sales. they were the producers so they were entitled but they didn't. It was all given to UNICEF, both Ewan and charley are Ambassadors for it now.
