Out of all the things wrong with the movie the one that bothered me most
Was the fact that they even served bacon in the canteen? Theses people are supposed to be kept in utmost tip top shape, they would never be given bacon.

shareI haven't watched this is ages, but since when has Bacon become unhealthy?
Yes, if it is covered with fat around the edges, it is unhealthy. Otherwise it's just a good source of protein.

Have you ever eaten American breakfast bacon? It's heavily processed, crispy, unhealthy *beep* that probably has very little nutritional value, if any, and is 99% fat. Korean bacon, on the other hand, is much more "substantial", merely a high-fat meat, so it's healthy as long as you don't eat too much fats.

I could go fully into it, but animal fats are actually very healthy, and a great source of energy. The human race survived on nothing but meats, fruits, and vegetables for 95% of our existence. It's only relatively recently that we developed agriculture and began consuming large amounts of grains - our bodies were never designed to live off starches. The whole "fat = heart attacks" idea is an unfounded popular myth that has been disproved in hundreds of studies, and will likely be going out the window in the next 5-10 years.
shareAre people actually arguing that bacon is healthy?! I love it, but it's bad for you -- it's that simple. There are other, more healthy sources of protein if that is why they served it.
shareI didn't think that was REALLY bacon. I think it was some faux bacon product. I think everything they ate was some faux product.
sharevery few things are bad for you in moderation. I'm guessing they wouldn't let a clone eat a pound of the stuff every day but a piece or two every now and then won't hurt a healthy person.

Care to share one leading study that says that a high fat diet doesn’t lead to heart attack? A high fat diet is bad for you! Fat accumulates in cells and amongst after deleterious effects, causes atherosclerotic plaques to develop in your coronary arteries WHICH CAUSE HEART ATTACKS. Bacon is also high in salt due to the way it is preserved, which leads to increased levels of sodium in the body. Sodium is directly linked to water retention which in turn directly affects blood pressure. You might want to know some basic physiology and pathology before you go arguing that bacon is good for you.
OP is right, bacon is high in salt and fat, any facility looking to produce healthy organ donors (hearts included) would be feeding white meat and fish instead of bacon.
Avocado, nuts, certain fish, and olives are high in fat. I personally, know people in their 90’s who have eaten bacon and pork all their lives. You really should understand basic science and how to understand peer-review if you really wish to understand medicine. The idea that some strips of bacon must lead to what you claim is beyond supportable.

Could you perhaps say more explicitly what it is you're trying to be wrong about.--Dr Adequate
This movie takes place in the future, when the current american fat-phobia is probably long gone. You don't get green from eating cucumber, and you don't get fat from eating fat. It's a little more complicated than that.
Here's some studies for you:
"Dietary fats, carbohydrate, and progression of coronary atherosclerosis in postmenopausal women" http://www.ajcn.org/content/80/5/1175.full
"A Systematic Review of the Evidence Supporting a Causal Link Between Dietary Factors and Coronary Heart Disease" http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/short/169/7/659
And no, a low-fat diet does not decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke. 50 000 women followed for 8 years, to a cost of 0,5 billion dollars.
"The WHI Dietary Modification Trial is the largest long-term randomized trial of a dietary intervention ever conducted to our knowledge, and it achieved an 8.2% reduction at year 6 in total fat intake and a mean daily increase of 1.1 servings of vegetables and fruits and 0.5 serving of grains. No significant effects on incidence of CHD or stroke were observed during 8.1 years of follow-up." "Low-Fat Dietary Pattern and Risk of Cardiovascular Disease" http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/295/6/655.full
I guess you have never heard of the ketogenic diet.
shareI guess you have never heard of the ketogenic diet.
I don't know what studies you've been reading. Recent studies say fat is best between 20-30%. If you're eating 50% or more it's too much. Same goes with protein and carbs. Additionally, animal fats ARE unhealthy. Those studies advocate ingesting vegetable/nut/fish fats.

And where did I give any percentages?! Don't put words in my mouth. I mentioned a high fat diet. I never gave percentages.

Every person that served can be called a veteran, but not every veteran can be called a Marine.
Well see "high fat" necessarily implies that it's "high in fat" threfore meaning above the recommended 20-30%. Unless of course you meant, "high fat relative to what anorexic people consider to be a normal amount" which you should've specified

Edit-
You're getting it confused. Not all fats are the same. And even in moderation (ahem, bacon) can be beneficial.
I meant high fat in contrast to the so called "low fat" diet. I didn't think I really needed to be specific as if someone was actually paying attention and was going to call me out on it. When I did Atkins and South Beach, I never ran a tally of the amount of fat I was consuming. It wasn't an issue to keep track of, as compared to how many grams of carbs I was taking in. And even then, I never did it by percentages. I just kept the grams under 40 carbs a day when I did Atkins and under 100 when I did South Beach. I found South Beach to be more beneficial and less restrictive and I was still able to lose 10 lbs a month with little effort.
One of the movies I watched (might have been Forks over Knives) one of the doctors goes into detail of how a low fat diet restricts or reduces the amount of good cholesterol in the arteries and that leads to plaque build up. She went on to mention that a diet higher in fats (sure, not saturated or animal fats) will not only reverse the effect of plaque, but it's also healthier for you. In other words, low fat diets are bad for the heart and you.
Edit-
It wasn't Forks Over Knives. That movie was about veganism or a vegetarian style diet. I'm looking of the movie I was referencing above on Netflix now.
Edit-
I believe the movie is Food Matters.

A high fat diet and a normal salt intake is NOT bad for you. It is ALL about the quality you eat and fat from the meat is NOT unhealthy. We are in 2014 and your knowledge is ancient.....Look up Primal or Paleo diet.
shareGosh, another health conspiracy theorist.

That's absurd. The arctic peoples who eat whale blubber and lots of animals fats are on the of the shortest lived populations on the planet. Animal products will keep you alive, but too much is not good, particularly if you are obese and get little exercise. My feeling is no one knows the ideal human diet, and whatever it is it probably only makes a marginal difference in lifespan, so worrying about it or thinking you can intuit was is best if always foolish. Keep track of your body, eat a variety of foods and not too much and get exercise is about the best you can do. Don't listen to anyone who makes money off telling you.
shareVBall your post is beyond unbelievable. It's just wrong.

You can cut the fat off bacon, and the company was worth billions, so I'm pretty the they the bacon (and the rest of the food) they fed them was top of the line with hardly any fat anyway. Plus they do exercise.

*Just... facepalms at the health nuts, shakes his head, and walks away with a heavy sigh*
By the way, if any of you had paid attention, you would have heard him being denied bacon because his cholesterol was too high, which tells you they WHERE concerned about keeping their clones fit, but a little bacon now and then doesn't hurt you provided its prepared properly, and not ALL bacon is loaded with preservatives.
I wasn't expecting a raging argument about the merits/demerits of bacon on imdb!
