shareThere are a lot of reasons. It starts decently enough but as it goes on it becomes a crappy action film with completely unbelievable actions from everyone involved.
sharethat could be a reason except nearly every action film exceeds it in that regard.( unbelievable actions from everyone involved)
maybe its the mixing up of the cool nerdy sci fi beginning with the regular action movie ending? i never really care if i like it.
The problem is that instead of a clever sci-fy film you have a crappy action-fest similar to Death race for example. It doesn't work.
Lightweight action with sci-fy and ''what is human'' questions doesn't work together and seems like the movie doesn't take itself seriously.
It's because combination of the title and McGregor. You saw the title The Island, oh ok, and then you saw McGregor. Hmm... oh this is somekind of romantic movie, I like romantic movie. You bought the ticket and wtf is this crap?
Other people, who actually wanted to see action sci-fi movie, saw the title The Island and starring McGregor were like bah another generic romantic movie set in a tropical island, pass.
If only it says right there a sci-fi ish title, like The Clones, or The Immortality Factor or something but NOT The Island. Or if it stars Tom Cruise instead of McGregor, I believe this movie would be way more popular.
It falls flat after the big reveal of what is really going on in the story line and the characters' predicaments.
It also felt like it was trying to play and updated version of Logan's Run, but for all of its aged SFX and groovy 70s futuristic schlock, Logan's Run has a deep human message about accepting our mortality.
This movie just tries to take the idea of human cloning and in the end justifies it by letting the protagonists survive and procreate, so in the end all of the terrible things these clones were a byproduct of never get rectified because all we're suppose to care about was that Ken and Barbie survived, fell in love, and procreated. The End
blech
I liked it with Scarlett Johanssan at her prime hotness.
