I don't get the painting

I feel like an idiot but please someone help me

In the painting eppy of Francines vagina...well....what the hell is it?
I'm a woman in my 20's. And I just prude? Is it the labia minor against the labia major? It just looks like two different colors of pink next to each other and that's it. I've tried to figure it out but I just don't get it.

That's just it, the painting is two boxes of different gradient shadings next to each other.

It's extremely simple and not at all resembling what the context is, but critics of the art world LOVE it for its brilliance. Even the friendzone guy was pretending to like it just so that he could cozy up to his lady friend, but not girlfriend.

So essentially, it's a joke over how nutso the art world gets over something anyone could do.

Obviously, on basic cable, airing at 8:30 with a TV-14 rating, the actual vulva could not be shown; so as the other poster said, they used the joke to their advantage. "American Dad!" was jabbing at the the people who believe that they see things deeper than intended when viewing art. It's apparent to the viewer that the picture is not a clear cut, explicit view of female gentitailia, but the characters on the show obviously saw the genitals and never once was it mistaken for anything else.

TL;DR: TBS couldn't actually show a close up of female genitals, so they used the network's limits (standards and practices) to make a joke towards pretentious art enthusiasts, while also continuing the storyline for the episode.
