Probably one of the worst 3rd acts of a movie ever

I'll start with saying I'm not a real fan of this movie. But that's besides the point. I get that people are big fans of this movie and they are for basically one reason. The first 30 minutes of the movie. I get it. Its a lot of fun. The "Shout" montage is great. What red blooded male wouldn't want to do that? Its pure fantasy. Its so good, that it makes people forget about the next hour and a half of this film, which is sub par at best. And the final 45 minutes of the film is unwatchable. I can't stand it. It takes out all the fun and makes it a awful experience. It needed another Will Ferrell character to get through it. Its like they thought in order to make the audience tell that Owen Wilson was miserable, they had to make the audience miserable too. Which is fine in like, a drama. But this is a comedy, and I'd like to laugh and not feel terrible. And its not like really anything happens either. Its all focused on Wilson moping around while interesting stuff happens elsewhere. It just basically stumbles to Vaughn's wedding, where the opportunity is given for Wilson to win back the girl with a cliche get back the girl at the wedding speech.

I agree the third act of a movie was one of the weakest I've ever seen and thought the scenes from where John and Jeremy go separate ways to the scene where we first meet Will Ferrell's character were unwatchable and depressing, I did like seeing what happens to Sack at the end but I also wished that Sack's "A--hole buddies" would've gotten their commupences

I would say the opening is great with the whole showing of the weddings they crash. That I agree with but I think the middle at the Clearys shore house has some really funny parts with Bradley Cooper and the family. I'll agree at the end it does slip away and the whole Wilson being depressed is kind of a bit much but it ties up into the story that they aren't young anymore and Owen Wilson's character realizes that right before the Cleary wedding that they need to kind of settle down. I agree that it needed a bit of something more but really it's about them finding true love in the one place that they go to to avoid it. I happen to love the movie and really don't think to much into watching a silly comedy like WC anyway but I get what you are prodding at for the last 30 minutes or so

you probably need to watch it again, a lot of times we aren't in the mood to watch a movie and we watch it and do not like it because of the mood we are in or just being distracted

if you don't like it the second time you are either distracted again or just a baddie

this is one of the best movies ever

I agree....I remember not liking the Will Ferrell scenes when I first watched this movie, but I just watched this the other day and was laughing my arse off during his scenes......"ma!! the meatloaf!!!!....F$CK*!!!" lol I loved it.
"All the tired horses in the sun, how my suppose to get any ridin' done?......"

"I never know what she's doing back there..."

That always cracks me up.

The forced feel good ending of the 3rd act ruined the film for me as well. I hate when comedies go the serious route at the end. Just takes all the fun out of the film.

Yeah, the movie comes to a screeching halt once the lie is revealed and becomes rather depressing up until the scene where Owen Wilson meets Will Ferrell's character. Though I disagree that the first half hour is the best part. Whenever I rewatch the movie, I actually tend to skip those parts and begin right when they arrive at the Cleary house.

The movie started out great with a relentless, often funny story, but fizzled badly in its second half and copped out with a highly predictable, formulistic ending.

There might be nothing tougher in Hollywood than closing out a great writing performance.

I completely agree with you about the third act. They made Owen Wilson's character into the most selfish and whiny friend ever. He isn't happy for his best friend finding true love and getting married?? He interrupts his best friend's wedding and then completely hijacked the ceremony?? It's completely opposite of his behavior earlier in the film. For the first two acts he was a good friend, and having Vince Vaughn's character stay at the beach house produced some of the funniest moments in the film and led him to falling in love with his future wife.

It wouldn't have been very hard to have Owen Wilson's character be a nice guy going through a very tough time, thus making him a more sympathetic guy who is supportive of his friend and deserves to win back the girl he loves.

Weird and poorly written script! It's almost like there was a different writer for the third act. I really liked the first 2/3 of the movie, so the end was a real disappointment.

This makes me glad I decided to stop watching it after the dinner scene. I thought at the time "this is probably supposed to be the funny part" but I wasn't laughing so I switched it off.
