During the scene where Maggie waves to the newly wed Rose as she drives away, I was going crazy thinking that they might try to pull some twist tragic ending to make everything seem deeper or "tragic" or something. I was like "NOOOO!!! GET OFF THE DAMN ROAD!!! OH MY GOOOOOD". They were talking about the damn circle of life and stuff too, that damn thing almost gave me a heart attack. Oh dear Jesus.
shareRegarding the original post. I was thinking the same, but it quickly turned into thinking the married couple could be the victims at that crossing the car passes before the camera cuts back to Cameron Diaz.

I was so scared!
I worked in post on this movie, and after the first test screening, a bunch of cards came back saying they thought Maggie would get hit by a car. So we tried to "darken" the headlights in the background and re-edit it in such a way that it seemed less like an impending death. But I guess it didn't work too well. Ha! :)
shareWell I wonder then, did they not close off the whole street for filming, or did they mean to have a car with the headlights on while they were filming in front of it?
