It was a nod to Jaws. Also Susan's last name was Watkins. The same last name as the shark's first victim.

But he never actually says it. He just asks if anyone gets the reference and never explains it further. If I hadn't gotten the reference, I would've been MAD! lol
I actually missed their names at first because I was looking at their birth dates. I have this thing about seeing dates and if they match family birthdays. In this case, Susan's was only one day away from mine.
