Why bother with other spells?

If the purpose of a duel is to eliminate the opponent, the Avada Kedavra spell is all you need. Why do these witches and wizards even bother with fire/ice/water/glass attacks, disable spells, stun-lock spells, knock back spells, charm spells.... seriously, just AK them and be done with it.

If I were in a wizard duel, I'd be shouting AK so much green bolts would shoot out of my wand like a machine gun.

If I don't want to kill my opponent, then the mind control curse instead. But really, what's the point of any other spell if it's a duel to the death?

That spell should have never existed in this universe. It raises so many pointless questions and comparisons with guns.

It feels like the movies are really struggling to avoid the fact that that spell would solve a lot of the problems they have.

Where the hell do you live, that you think every little fight needs to end with someone dead or under mind control? Most fights aren't lethal, someone just wants to hurt, defeat, or humiliate another person, with the intent of showing them who's boss or making them stop doing something objectionable.

Most of the student fights at Hogwarts were completely non-lethal in intent, Malfoy wanted to humiliate people and Harry and his pals wanted to hurt Malfoy in retaliation, and Malfoy never wanted to kill anyone and Harry and his pals didn't jinx anyone without being provoked first.

Petrificus Totalus, the petrifying curse, is all you need in a duel. This is a practice duel between kids, no one should actually end up dead or severely injured, so it's the best spell to use because it causes no damage, immobilizes your opponent and ends the duel asap.
