great films you never want to watch again

mysterious skin
requiem for a dream
life of david gale - more f_d up than i expected
basketball diarees

snow angels - great acting but otherwise now watching again anyways
butterfly effect - creative, but otherwise now worth the disturbingness

my friend sais american history x, but i could watch that a few times, the performance was so exilerating, and anger to me is easier to watch than depression

candy is another disturbing film that carried enough poetic beauty to watch again

havn't seen united or irreversable yet

Mysterious Skin
Prayers For Bobby
Requiem For A Dream
Irreversible
Boys Don't Cry
Detachment

And I'm not exactly sure if these 2 are great, but I think it was good overall:
-Perfect Sense
-Young Adam

That looks like a very depressing list of movies to watch/weep to.

Haven't seen snow angels or candy yet....

Few movies disturb me, but this one, Afterschool and We Need To Talk About Kevin make the top of the short list.

Yes I loved this film, I don't think I would be able to watch it again or at least not any time soon. I had particular trouble in watching it because I have past with abuse, not in exactly the same way but certain parts came too close to home as they say. I'm not what is considered "gender normative" I had physical abuse at home by my dad until I was 8 for being imperfect, but then the rest of my family was able to pack us up to get away. And I was abused all throughout school sometimes verbally, mostly physically, but sometimes sexually too, at one point I was 15 and barely got away from attempted rape. So this was very hard for me to see but I watched it with someone who knows what I have been through and who loves me very much and that helped at least a little to know that she was there. I send my love to anyone else who has had any other similar abuses growing up and I hope you are able to have a better life now

Sorry for my English mistakes.

Personally, I'm avoiding seeing Hachi: A Dog's Tale again. That movie made me cry for at least an hour after it was finished. I thought it was heartbreaking.

this is a different genre of movies... it is not about abuse or drugs or anything... but i really liked "The birth" with Nicole Kidman... i was very moved by that movie, everyone either love it or hate it, but i loved it, although i wouldnt want to watch it again... the stuff characters in these movies went through physically, i think Nicole was going through mentally...

Love this post.

I, like quite a few others who have posted will watch a film again if I thought it was good for whatever reason. If a film shocks or disturbs me enough I want at least another viewing to see if I missed anything the first time or to see if I get the same feelings the 2nd time. Films I think a lot of people would define as great films they wouldnt want to watch again but I watch quite regually are:-

Kids(chances are u heard of this, its gritty, dirty and feels incredibly real almost like a documentry rather then a film but desperatly sad and tragic. Def needs to be rewatched.)
Kidulthood (Sort of a british version of kids but not really, a little lighter and comediec but again not really....)
Bully (Very similer feel to kids thou murder is the main plot)
Mysterious Skin (Shocking and heart breaking but the performances and subject matter cant be ignored.)
L.I.E (Just as shocking as 'skin' in my opinion thou much slower paced and very different format.)
A clockwork orange (I love this film and Alex does make me laugh at times (btw i'm a girl) but it is a scary look at future youth.)
Precious(one of the hardest hitting films regarding incest in my opinion so hard and heartbreaking to watch, with a sence of helplessness like 'kids'but amazing performances and touching at times.)
The Basketball Diaries (Never been a problem for me amazing film.)
Girl Interupted (This movie pulls you in lots of different directions makes you laugh and cry all in the same scene, you def have to be 'in the mood' but one of my fave movies)
Changeling (not sure if it fits into the catergry but i can imagine a lot of people liking it but pehaps not watching again very depressing with some horrific murder scenes.)
Requiem for a dream (def one of the harder to watch but too amazing a movie to not watch again.)
Oldboy (^ see above)
American History X ^
Schindlers list ^
Battle Royale (My fave film, the original hunger games and much much more shocking, this take on controlling youth is actually not so out there as you may think. If you like them gory but hard hitting give it a go.)
Funny Games (Goes where so many movies wouldn't dare go I actually haven't watched it again yet but I will, really shocked me thou.)
The Mist (Goes there too ^)
Brokeback Mountain (Very sad and hard to take ending)
Boys dont cry (same as above, but like brokeback some heartwarming scenes)
Redacted (A story about a few soldiers who go awol while on duty and kill a family and brutily rape a young girl all because their captain is 'blown up' a few hours earlier and she is the same religion as the people who did it. Very contriversal and shocking especilly the 'real' photos at the end showing the devistation of war.)
Sleepers( I like this film it far from has a happy ending but for me theres some redemption and I do enjoy seeing this on multiple occasions.)
The Woodsman (Indeed shocking and Kevin Bacon is fantastic but I dont think its one of the most shocking out there.)
District 9 (Love it, doesn't bother me at all...dont get the one viewing opinion on this one??)
The deer hunter (Soooo long and soooo i dunno depressing but in the right mood I would def watch again)
A Guide to reconising your saints (Another shocking, depressing look at teenagers and the difficulties they are faced with thou not as hard hitting as others....recomend if you haven't seen it.)
Saw (A stretch I know, I dont really think horrors fit into this post but I have to mention it, my fave series of films but def not for the squimish :-)

But there are some great movies that just drained me out and its very unlikely I will watch these again...
Flight 93 (all to real, im british and knew no one lost on this tragic day but argh this just made me cry for hours.)
Passion of the christ (I'm not religious at all and I can take a lot of violence, gore etc but this was just too much.)
Eden Lake (similer to funny games but much grittier with just such a feeling of helplessness and horror, really botherd me.)
An American Crime (Again the feeling of helplessness and always worse when you know its a true story and the film makers have actually CUT OUT a lot of the harder hitting stuff..that poor girl, and elllen page just breaks my heart.)

so yes hope my recomendations, etc come in handy. The thing I always take in with me are that its just a movie lol, give it a go! :-)
