Other movies like this ?

I really enjoy such slow crime thrillers which have a detective/lead trying to catch a killer.
But I cannot think of many movies like this..Some which come to mind are Se7en , No country for old men , Prisoners or even Jack Reacher.

Can anyone suggest me some more good movies of the type i have mentioned..?
Thanks

Same here! The lack of onscreen violence reminded me of movies like that and Kiss The Girls.

"Listen, do you smell something? -Ray Stantz"

Me too, felt a bit gritty like 8mm (that's an underrated film IMO), also the PI ofc and the old style music, love private investigator films.

reply

Yeah 8mm2 wasn't as good as 8mm but it was still interesting.

reply

Dont forget to mention that you mean Schumachers dark thriller with Nic Cage and not JJ Abrams worthless kid movie 8 mm.

This movie felt a bit like Prisoners, Zodiac and Se7en yes; but was much more forgettable.
I can recommend True Detective series as a slow thriller/detective (8 episodes) it is really really great

That was real? I saw that movie, I thought it was bullsh*t

Dirty Harry.

I love "Dirty Harry" and i thought the first scene was almost an homage to the diner scene from "Dirty Harry", except it was, I presume, from the book.

Definitely has that vibe. Almost always overcast. Rooftops and all.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and maybe Shutter Island

You might like "Layer Cake" or "3 days to kill". Both are similar films.

reply

ehh since when did Layer Cake and 3 days to kill become dark and gritty thrillers? lol you seem to have no clue or you havent seen any of the movies you recommend cdjunkee-1...

I respect your opinion however ..Layer Cake may be different then, "A walk among the Tombstones" but it's a pretty good flick. I don't think it's necessary to be spot on when comparing/recommending films. It's not like he recommended, "Hunger Games".

Definitely Se7en, Zodiac, Jar City and the Swedish and American versions of The Millennium Trilogy. The film also reminded me of plenty of TV shows like The Wire, The Shield, The Killing, Wallender, Prime Suspects and many police procedurals in the UK and mainland Europe.
