People who hate this movie can not believe that a mother would scream "SHHHUTTTT UPPPP!!!" to a guest in their house at the dinner table for being concerned about children in a cruel, cruel world...

I hate this movie. It is a vile, disgusting depiction of how not to treat a guest in your home.
I'm a Democrat, and although I didn't hate the movie, I was a bit appalled at the way the Stones treated Sarah Jessica Parker's character. They were supposed to be liberal forward thinking people, but their actions showed them to be the exact opposite: backward and extremely judgmental. The only saving grace is that they noticed how mean spirited they were towards SJP towards the end of the film.

I'm a registered independent but I consider myself a moderate liberal and this movie bothered me a lot. It doesn't matter how "uptight" Meredith is, no guest deserved to be treated that way.
I'm a lifelong Democrat, too, DanaShelbyChancey, and I agree with you 100%. In fact, many members of this family demonstrate the lack of compassion and kindness that I have come to associate with Republicans.
