You have to watch it.....6 times

Before you like it. i HATED this movie for the first 5 times, but i watch it at least once a week on HBO or something and it just keeps growing on me. i dunno what it is. my hate for SJP is set off by my love of rachel mcadams.

I think their point was that it takes a few times to really get and appreciate what is going on with all the characters and why they behave the way they do. I liked it the first time I saw it and I was surprised. I always resisted watching it because I'm really not a Sarah Jessica Parker fan and I expected something like Meet the Parents (which I really didn't like) but I was pleasantly surprised to see a film with much more going on! It makes me cry every time--I find it to be pretty powerful.

First time did it for me and I've loved it each and every time after too. It manages to make me laugh maniacally and sob hysterically during every viewing. A really solid movie.

100% agree with this. I left the theater feeling very blah because I expected this to be a comedy. Now it's my favorite Christmas movie. :)

Call me Katie. ;-)

I love this thread, especially considering there's so much hate on these message boards.

The first time I saw the movie, I was really put off by how rude some of the family members were. But I felt myself inclined to watch it again, because something about the dramatic undertones of it stayed with me...

Now I absolutely love this movie, as imperfect as it may be, and blow up my DVD every year, playing it while I wrap presents and write Christmas cards. Good times.

When I first saw it, I was confused about how Meredith and Ben ended up together and Julie and Everett did. I was like, in what alternate universe did this big family just pull a switcheroo? But like all of you, after watching it a few times, I grew to love this movie. And now when I watch it it only seems inevitable that Everett and Meredith break up, like the scene when they're in front of the mirror and she says, "Look at them." They just seemed to be together to fit a certain image.

Now I watch it every Christmas, and it's my favorite Christmas movie. I love the characters! I love how I notice something I didn't see before when I watch it. I love how the movie deals with each character's reaction to what's happening. The performances, also, are amazing. Great cast that works well together; I truly believed them as a family, and the ending is so heartbreaking every time I watch it. Such a beautiful movie.

So are you a masochist about everything? Why would anyone watch a movie they hate 6 times? I think your mind just gave up and gave in so you didn't make it watch it a 7th time.

I guess it's like looking at clouds. You see one thing and I see another. Peace.

I watched this movie over and over again too when I rented it for 24 hours. I liked it more and more with each viewing. Meredith became the maternal glue character at the end. It just gets to me...

I watched it for the first time on Christmas Eve of 2006 and was so engrossed in it that I was late for a party. I still love it, though I can't watch the dinner scene as it makes me uncomfortable.
