Sam was definitely hotter to me. So I had a hard time believing the whole "invisible girl in high school" role she was playing. Someone as good looking as her would always stand out as far as guys are concerned, who cares if she's a dinergirl.

Shelby may have been beautiful, that that's all she had going for her. She was ugly as sin on the inside, and honestly, these years were gonna be the best of her life. After graduating high school (she'd probably join a sorority in college) she'd still end up a bitter, hateful, 40-something divorcee with bad plastic surgery in the future, and nobody to live with unless she paid for their company. She probably would also be a wine-o.

Sam, on the other hand, regardless of what she looked like, would have a good future, a husband, kids, and friends long after her youth was gone. That's a far better way to go than what would eventually happen to the selfish, asshole Shelby.
