Corrections about Europe

There isn't a reason. They support man united, but live in london. You don't have to live in manchester to like united OR city.

Thats not the case, as I'm sure Vinnie Jones character says that theyve walked into the home pub of the supporters club, so they must be local to London. In reality although man Utd would have plenty of supporters in London, theres no way on earth they'd have a pub there exclusively just for them.
Although theres a few different accents among the hooligans, none of them sound remotely like theyre from manchester, mind you, with man Utd thats not so unexpected!

The whole point of the film was that it was making fun of the stereotypical point of view of Europe that some (notice how I said some, not all) Americans have. That was part of the joke of this film. It can't be taken seriously. You can't try and pick apart what's actually true in real life and what's not true. You'd totally be missing the point of the film. But then again I'm just some "ignorant" American who doesn't know anything about the rest of the world.


Nothing else needs to be said, this is exactly what the movie is about. No need to pick it apart, measure, weigh, scrutinse every little aspect of this movie, it did exactly as it intended and I loved it. Im Australian and am over the fact that everyone starts these arguments about anti-americanism, and the fact someone is being branded ignorant because of where they are from. We are talking about a clever, simple comedy. I personally couldnt care if the producer was a 13 year old eskimo with three eyeballs, i simply enjoyed the movie for what it was.

I understand nobody likes stereotypes placed on them over and over I don't consider a Hollywood movie to be a good representation of what we Americans think of Europe. They exaggerate stereotypes for humor and almost all of the portrayals of people in countries over there were wrong. But should we just accurate show every single country, every single accent and town knowing that it won't be in the least funny? Has there ever been a movie where Americans have been shown as fat, lazy loud idiots who can't even comprehend the culture of another country? Of course there has! But that's what most people think of us and most people think it's funny. I can't only assume an idiot would actually take those kind of dumb stereotypes into effect when they begin to judge someone from another country.


And I really thought this movie was freaken hilarious! Especially the Manchester United scene! I've only been to Spain but I've always wanted to travel all over Europe! Just wish it wasn't so expensive!

Yeah I agree. I feel like it was exceedingly obvious that this movie was playing off of straight up stereotypes, every stereotype a young teenage American would think of with Europe...and not going for accuracy. It was a farcical comedy about Europe from an American stereotype point of view. The audience was American, too, and we generally wouldn't pick up on those details mentioned in the OP thread.

So, Europeans being insulted...I can see that. But trying to point out real life inaccuracies seems fruitless since the whole thing was a farce. Audience members know that too...no, this isn't how Europe really is...but a comedy playing off stereotypes.

or maybe it's just fun to point out those inaccuracies? like if there was a European movie about "stupid fat America" and they had states and monuments mixed up...I can see a thread appearing on IMDb pointing out the mistakes.

may i ask.. all of you saying "get over it" or "it's just a movie", are you american?

cause it seems like the proper hipocrasy of americans, that jokes about europeans, no matter how incorrect or insulting, are funny as hell. while jokes about americans(borat anyone? how many legal threats?) are frowned upon? you can't take the heat, but you'd be happy to give it?

note that i did not care much about the movie. i didn't hate it but i didn't waste too much time thinking about it. but extreme stereotypes are a delicate matter, and should only be used by someone like dave chappelle who knows what he's doing.

Have fun when you get to Europe, and I'm glad you now know its gonna be nothing like in the film.
I think I'll take the view that a lot of the mistakes were deliberate and put in amuse those of us with more Geographical knowledge than a proportion of the target audience. After all, the mistakes made me laugh almost as much as the jokes. It was funny in its ridiculousness (is that a word?) in the same way as something like Monty Python and the holy grail.
