Gratuitous Masturbation Degraded the Movie.

That gratuitous masturbation scene degraded the movie and insulted the audience.

reply

I would have to agree except Emily Perkins does a lot to salvage the scene with her acting. In fact, she almost salvages the whole movie while having to say some totally embarrassing lines.

reply

I agree with those who said the scene was funny because it was so weird. Ginger popping up at the end saying, "Nice form, B." was the capper. That would probably be a mind *beep* to have your dead sister complimenting you on your masturbation technique.

reply

I guess they were going for a werewolfism as a metaphor for sexuality angle, as in the first film, but unlike in the original film it just didn't work. Yes, it was gratuitous and annoying. For extra annoyance, it suggests the nurse was right and Brigitte is a lesbian (the annoying thing is the nurse being right, not B. being lesbian per se).

I don't know I would call it gratuitous, but it was the biggest embarrassment in the movie. Emily Perkins acting salvages the scene at the end, but getting to that point was painful. A few more minutes of it, and I would have turned the movie off, or fast-forwarded it through the scene.

I realize that werewolfism has a psychological connection to sex, but not to masturbation. That is not the form of sex that works. I would say it was just clumsy, and the actress leading the therapy sounded embarrassed. And then to end the scene with Brigitte having hair on her hands, it just wasn't funny. To take the movie out of its way to make that joke was a waste.

Oh, so you think seeing a therapist is shameful? Thank you for disgracing the mentally ill.

Your condescension to me about "the ol' feel and squeal" is so far off-target you don't even hit the right planet. Upon request, I can PM you a link to my blog, and a link to a friend's blog where I make comments on the subject of sexuality. Read those, and then tell me with a straight face that I have any problem with females "Jill-ing off."

It's not having so many females "ringing Satan's doorbell" that plays wrong with me. If Brigitte were shown awake and "toggling her switch" to fantasies of bloody violence, I wouldn't have had a problem. If Brigitte and Ghost had lesbian sex with the "phantom" of Ginger "hitting the slit" in the background, I wouldn't have had a problem. (In fact, that would have been a very good scene, a great improvement over what they did. Hot too.) Hell, if I had a problem with "dousing the digits," would I be watching GS2 after Ginger made a lascivious reference to "it's like touching yourself" in the first movie?

No, it's not the girls "spankin' their spots" I had a problem with. It's when they take the psychology and play it wrong. I don't know how a room full of females "slappin' their cracks" has anything to do with lycanthropy. What does it have to do with Brigitte? By that scene, she should begin to see those girls around her as a different species. That would have been a better scene. Why would her sexual awakening spill over into images of them? Brigitte couldn't have been that empathetic with them.

The scene they did had the same effect as hearing a great song played off key.

I can't see the interpretation of the scene as being "a middle-finger to people who think women don't masturbate." Really? Come on. They're "tappin' their tunas" in a dream, where-- as you know-- all kinds of realistic things happen. A conclusion you can come away with is that women only "do the girly gush" in fantasies.

I rewrote this message after my first attempt got very insulting. I'm really incensed that you would be so patronizing, both boasting about your liberated attitude and attacking my purportedly benighted one. You didn't even ask me any questions first. You just automatically assumed I was writing from a suppressed sexual attitude.

I've put the flamethrower away, for now.

Thank you, but I can't take credit for it. I didn't coin the term. I read it on some website sometime early last decade, and it was worth remembering and passing on-- when it's on-topic.

Plot wise this scene was an embarrassment. I showed all 3 GS films to my brother and when we got to the scene he actually said "What the *beep*? " and to be honest when I first watched it I was worried someone would catch me watching girls masturbate while someone says over the top "does he scream as your ripping his tender flesh? Oooh yes." because If someone did walk in I would have NO good answer to "What the hell are you watching?" because I'm 16, Naturally one would come to the conclusion that I...moving on.

I personally thought Ginger Snaps Unleashed was the worst out of the series. Oddly enough I STILL gave it a descent rating.

It was an embarrassment any way look at it. I felt so sorry for the actors.

If you're caught watching the scene, you could always say you didn't know it was on there. Of course, that will only work once.

I thought the prequel was the worst. Unleashed had some good things about it, and Emily Perkins' performance carried the entire first half of the movie. She really brought more depth to the role, and you can observe things about Brigitte that weren't in the original. Such as, Brigitte is dead set on stopping her shape shift. She absolutely despises The Curse, and tries to keep it from spreading it the way Ginger does. Her loneliness and anger come out.

And because the dialog is so thin, she has so many scenes where she's either on the screen alone, or she pauses, or doesn't answer somebody, and she still carries the scene. I mean, she rescued this masturbation scene, that is, she brought us right back into the movie.

I actually rather enjoyed the prequel. I didn't call myself 'b-movie lover' for nothing.

The twist at the end was good, of GSB I mean.

I don't doubt that you enjoyed it, and you're welcome to that, I'm just curious about why you would rate it better than "Unleashed."

I can guess. Maybe it's because the end of Unleashed would leave a bad taste in your mouth.

reply

You got it in one! Brigette being locked in some psycho brat's basement is NOT a satisfying ending nor even a good one. GSB was actually rather enjoyable for what it was; a mindless reimagining. I STILL can't believe John Fawcett was assistant director on both sequels. His directing ability is WAY below that. The Boys Club (1997) is a bloody masterpiece.

I didn't say I hated the second one, far from it, Its just both the ending and the masturbation scene get to me. I have submitted reviews to all 3 films where I gave this a 7, The prequel an 8 and the original 10.

The first time I watched this (with my brother Morbius Fitzgerald) I wondered what the hell I was watching. To the extent I said "WHAT THE *beep*?!?!?!".

The scene has no relevance to the movie whatsoever. If they cut it out (I wish they had) then I would have actually thought Unleashed would only have minor problems.

But I did find it somewhere in me to like this one... Unlike the prequel.

Does he scream as you're riiiiiiiippppping his tender flesh?

This is gonna *beep* do for him what "Jade" did for David Caruso.
