Gratuitous Masturbation Degraded the Movie.
That gratuitous masturbation scene degraded the movie and insulted the audience.

shareI personally found it an amusing "WTF?" moment. I felt more insulted by Bridget's fate.
"Welcome to the Human Race"---Escape from L.A.
Wrenches me off the story line.
Lotta porn and nudity on the internet.
I don't need it in a horror movie.
It wasn't meant to offend. If you have the DVD and watch the commentary, they say that one of the female producers suggested the scene. It's supposed to represent how B relates her werewolf instincts to sex. She gets off on it. It was a dream sequence anyway. The teacher wasn't REALLY teaching them to masturbate, it was B not being able to think of anything else but killing and relating it to sexual pleasure.
shareThis specific scene is very important in the movie, it shows how powerfull what's growing inside B is. It's funny and quite well done (no nudity) and surprising in the good way. I find it very amusing that you can be impressed by that scene in such a movie, where every single character is disturbing (rapist, drug addict, murderer, werewolf...). It's so very american to be impressed by any single reference to sexuality. Thank you Canada for bringing us this movie.

It was the only scene in the film that actually made me laugh out loud: right after masturbating she grew hair on her palm! I didn't listen to the commentary but I can't help thinking that was an intentional bit of humour.
MIke Meyer used to be funny, realy.

I agree. The main reason I actually think that the Prequel is a better movie is because it did all it possibly could with the premise while actually adding something new to the table. At the end of Ginger Snaps 1, Brigitte could go anywhere and do anything. They could've done loads with the premise. If they forced a Ginger Snaps and Underworld crossover it still wouldn't be as bad as this.
The masturbation scene was the best example of the fact that the director had no idea what he was doing. This is the kind of movie people make to kill a franchise. How else does anyone else explain this film?
"If you don't like your ideas, stop having them!"
I agree. In their favor, though, you have to remember Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle were reaching the age when they could no longer play teenagers effectively. There was a four year gap between GS and the sprequels, and they were older than their parts to begin with.
Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle were reaching the age when they could no longer play teenagers effectively.
Yes, that's true. However, in Another Cinderella Story, they were the ugly step-sisters. With that requirement, age wasn't so much a factor. It would still be a factor in anything dramatic. The two also managed to make those characters so dumb that they seemed like they were born yesterday.
With Unleashed, I believe they set it two years after the original partly because Emily Perkins did look older. She could pass for seventeen, but not very well for fifteen. They showed Katie Isabelle in an appropriate, soft, blurry light, which solved the apparent age discrepancy. In the prequel, notice it never brings up their exact ages.
(Though it is an anachronism that they weren't yet married off. That tended to happen then when a girl was fourteen, or younger in that time period.)
Yes, now the two actors still look young and radiant. However, when you're planning a series, you can't count on how fast your principles will age. All you know is that they're significantly older than the characters they're playing, and that makes the clock tick faster.
If they wanted to continue the series, the way to do that would have been to start shooting in 2000. I don't know why it took four years, but they were probably exhausted with trying to make the original and had never thought of what they would do if it were successful.
I took it as a scene depicting her repressed sexual urges due to not wanting to be a werewolf and not embracing the curse.
It shows how different she is than Ginger. Ginger embraced it, B knew first hand what would happen so she repressed everything that came with being a werewolf.
Blood is thicker than water and much tastier!
That's a great interpretation, and agree with it that far, except I it would have made more sense to me if expression would have been less masturbatory and more aggressive, as with Ginger raping Jason. A masturbation scene is like having the werewolf chase its tail. Raping and murdering Tyler and stuffing his remains in a drawer would have been more like it.
I thought the scene was great, and funny.Even if it was a dream sequence.

Wife and I were watching that with our kids, both my wife and daughter (14 at the time) cracked out laughing at that one! We weren't offended by it, just an interesting part of the film. Quite be offended by something like that? If NBD subject.
shareThere's worse things that people could be offended by. But a tripping out bit? Not so much.
Our songs will all be silenced, but what of it? Go on singing. -- Orson Welles
I love that scene simply for B's expression at the beginning.
The woman is like "When your hand is placed on your clitoris..." and B looks up like "wtf?"
Wrists are for girls! - Ginger Snaps

I thought it was perhaps the most memorable scene in the movie if simply because you see it and go WTF. I didn't realize it was just a dream the first time I saw this though so it was a bit confusing for awhile.
shareMy thoughts exactly, like whoa!Masturbation class! this rehab center is sure progressive!
shareIt was an R rated movie anyway and the scene took maybe 3mins.
But one has to admit the movie is pretty good.
Ummm....can I just say that I didn't think the movie was degraded and I wasn't insulted at all.
sharei enjoyed that part my self.
shareWhat gratuitous masturbation scene? Do you have a clip?
