Suggestions to fix Real Time

I tried to watch the whole show but it was a horrible snoozefest. I've loved Martin Short and Steve Martin over the years but I can't stand them when they're together. Bill definitely needs contacts or at the very least some better looking glasses. The Matt Damon thing went on way too long it seems like everybody is being lazy coming off of their June/July vacation. I don't even think Bill should have a show in August, waste of time.

The thing is, this show should be the best on television. Why? Because it's only one show a week and they could: 1. Have a great monologue, but lately Bill's writers have been FREAKING LAZY 2. Have a great one on one guests with Bill, not the duds they've had lately 3. Somehow fix their roundtable discussion, it just rarely works, a lot of times nobody knows these people and it turns people off 4. Have "extra" comedy bits, they only do this rarely but it should be weekly 5. New Rules is fine but shorten it and add another comedy bit to end the show.

So no, I'm not saying "Fire Bill Maher!" lol(Although Bill should shake up his writing staff, goodbye out of touch geezers!).

Finally, I would accept HBO's offer for me to be the showrunner but they can't afford me.

I used to watch the show and enjoyed it. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the writers. It's Bill's show and if he wants to do a little stand-up routine every opening and use someone else's material instead of his own, that's on him. If he thinks something someone else wrote is good enough to air, well that's on him too . I always thought that Bill was the worst part of his own show. The way he would laugh through his monologues was as if he was reading them for the first time on the teleprompter. He also had a habit of chastising the audience for not laughing at his jokes.

I like the political aspects of his show, but he's a hack of a comedian.

You've got some great points, he is starting to look way past his prime that's for sure. Can you imagine if they canx this show and replaced it with somebody like Norm MacDonald? God, I'd watch that every single week!!!

He’s also competing against a dozen other hate night “comedy” shows that do the exact same shtick.

Communist Democrats don’t have the evidence or ability to put forward persuasive arguments so they have to fill a room with lemmings who laugh when they’re instructed at substance free political commentary and act like it’s funny.

It’s dull, and redundant. Because anyone paying attention seeing these people being completely wrong on every issue over and over and over. It grows boring for anyone with an IQ over 80.

The whole point of the show is the debate between the members of the panel. One of the things Maher has to his credit is that he very often invites right wing conservatives onto the show and gives them a chance to have their say. Which is great, because they always come out and reveal themselves to be the completely retarded assholes we already knew they were.

reply

"completely retarded assholes" - like Ben Affleck!

reply

No argument here. Nobody said the right had the asshole market cornered. As if Bill Maher is in the business of coddling Islamists.

I would
1) want to cut down on the "comedy bits" myself. Too often they get into a good discussion and Bill has to stop it to do a bit.
2) remove the extra guest they bring in the middle of the panel. Again it interrupts a good conversation sometimes and usually for no real benefit.
