A word of caution, this post contains spoilers (though those who have never seen it should read what I have to say anyway)
I loved everything about this movie; the non-edited fight scenes, the violence, the characters, and Michael White is fantastic. I was all into the film until the very last scene where the main villain was in prison, walking from the water fountain, and suddenly ambushed and gang raped (it's suggested that the guy was anally raped with a shank). This is all done in a comedic tone by the way, so we're all suppose to laugh at this guy being raped with a shank.
I was wondering if anyone else was disgusted with the film because of this scene.
What do you mean 'it's just a film'? This ain't 'Zombie Holocaust' dude, it's real life. Suppose a woman got rape by a bunch of men for comedic effect, would it still be 'just a film'
I mean it`s fiction, not real. This is a fictionally film, not a real documentary. If you can`t handle rape scenes, i suggest you to stop watching films with rape scenes. If you think this rape scene was too rough, you shouldn`t watch "I Spit on Your Grave" (78) which has multiple rape scenes which are much rougher.
Yes, to your other question. All things in films are fiction. Not matter how realistic the rape scenes are done. I can handle rape scenes, but i don`t go out of my way to just see films with rape scenes. I watched this film for fight scenes which i liked and Michael Jai White, not the rape scene.
The man had someone imprisoned and killed because he was jealous of his woman, he had an old man set upon by dogs for "asking too many questions" he smashed a hooker/junkie into a wall with his 4x4, he stabbed a man then beat him to death in his own house (probably his wife too) for being a whistleblower.
I think it was a fair example of James getting "whats coming to him".
In reply to what you said godfather-23 I can understand how you would be disgusted by the rape scene being depicted as comedic, I myself was not offended by it but I didn't find it particularly amusing either I think it was just a good way to show that people who do evil things will eventually have evil things done to them.
creatorof2002 I have not seen any of the Undisputed sequels but I have heard good things about them. I did enjoy Price's character and the idea of a spin-off is a good one, a lot of people on this board have talked about a sequel to Blood & Bone but at the end of the film Bone had accomplished everything in regards to honouring his friend so I think unless they turned Bone into a Clint Eastwood type character then he wouldn't feel very relevant.
In regards to your ideas about Price I think the idea of him witnessing the corruption and evil taking place would be a good one to build his story upon, a few things about his character could be brushed under the rug such as him killing a few opponents in the ring, after all his fight against Bone would have certainly taught him a few things about respect and discipline.
It's not about a rape scene, it's about how it's handled. One of my favorite films happens to be American History X, which also has a rape scene. The difference between that scene and this one is that this particular scene is suppose to be funny while the X scene isn't.
Hmmm I had kinda took it that Kimbo was referring to his d^&% as a shank, but maybe he did mean an actual shank. Either way I wasnt disgusted by it I guess because of everything that the villian had done. I also kinda found it ironic that Kimbo was the one doing it considering that he was the one who killed MJW's friend.
But I guess I can understand how some folks could be turned off by it.

Correct. The "shank" referred to was the inmates penises. I did think that final scene was unnecessary, all that was needed was to show him in prison, possibly facing an imminent confrontation.
I didn't think the scene was unnecessary in any way. It didn't detract from what the movie was about and kind of stated that there are worse things than getting beaten up in a fight. I've forgotten the name of the bad guy, but I thought the ending said that he had something worse coming to him all that time, because of his conduct. The others got beaten in fights by Bone, but he did not deserve something so honourable, but rather a "meat shank" instead.
@ godfather-23 <<I was wondering if anyone else was disgusted with the film because of this scene.>>
I do think that the scene was disgusting and it took some of the fun I had watching this film, away. But in no way did it make the entire movie disgusting. I still think this was a very good movie and the grace and speed shown by Michael-Jay White is nothing short of phenomenal for such a big muscled guy. I'd love to see more movies with him starring in it.
The villain was so evil he had horribly harmed and killed so many people that it was fun to see him suffer horribly. Some people are so evil that they deserve get this ANYTHING bad that happens to them. The villain deserved whatever he got. Kunjite Forbidden Subjects was a charles bronson movie where a man who was kidnapping children and forcing them into sex slavery was raped by a cell mate twice his size and although not shown we kind of know what was going to happen to the main villain in the Tom Sellick movie AN INNOCENT MAN.
Such scenes are only appropriate for VERY evil villains. If you had a movie about a jewel thief or a drug dealer who just dealt drugs but never killed anyone or some other kind of not unredeemingly evil villain then nobody would want to see him gang raped. An example of someone I would love to watch gang raped is the guy in Slumdog MIllionaire who was permanently blinding children just to make extra sympathy money from begging.
A person does NOT have to be gay to enjoy seeing a man raped. It is not about sexuality but about COMMUPANCE. He was evil to the core and had done so many horrible things that seeing him suffer feels GOOD. IT does NOT mean the person themself wants to sodomize him.
I hate that group of young men who took turns in Oakland raping a fifteen year old girl outside of a gym. I would LOVE to see them all get raped in prison but that does not make me gay.
The scene did come off as a little silly but I didn't think it was intentional. Was it ever confirmed by the film makers that it was supposed to be comedic? Is that what the director was going for?

I think it was supposed to be funny. I didn't like the scene but it was definetely to show him get his comeuppance.

Only thing I had a problem with was that I noticed Kimbo's character was actually still breathing at the end. Bone went through all of that trouble to set things right with his dead friend, but he didn't even set things straight with the guy who ACTUALLY killed him?
This was a GREAT film without that end scene in the prison. I didn't find it funny at all, but because I liked the film so much, I kind of dismissed the end scene. I think they should have just omitted it.
