The relationship between Captain and Dex seem to be wrought with homosexual overtones. Particularly the Captains constant remarks about Dex "Good boy Dex". It seems clear that there is a Daddy/boy relationship going on there with Dex constantly vying for the captains attention though his own ingenuity. Or is it just me?

No, there are no homosexual overtones. The relationship between Joe and Dex is like a father and son relationship. Joe sees Dex as the son he may never have. (His line of work doesn't exactly insure a long life.) It is obvious that Joe is in love only with Polly, although he did have a brief fling with Franky, probably becaus he was getting tired of Polly's shenanigans,(Who wouldn't?) and as Polly said Franky was "some kind of girl". There are, however; hints, both in the movie and the novelization, that Dex and Franky are involved. Did anyone notice how Frankie got upset and changed her mind when Joe said that Dex was captured?
