Erica crying montage was ridiculous...

Especially that one scene where she was sleeping, woke up, and then INSTANTLY started bawling. That was just over the top.

The bawling was over the top anyway. Maybe they were trying to make it funny, but for me it was just hard to watch. Sobbing would have been more realistic than overdone, theatrical bawling.

It isn't that her excessive crying is ridiculous, it's just that they showed so much of it. I got her feelings on the first sob! What is a director for?

reply

I couldn't handle it at all. Super annoying.

It showed how much she was hurting.

Having seen this movie once over ten years ago I still remember this scene. Not for the right reasons. I can imagine bad crying footage being shot, but how on earth can you put like minutes of it in the movie. Terrible director or editor. And terrible acting.

"Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man..."

I hated this montage. It wasn't funny, it was just annoying.

It was also ridiculous because it's impossible to believe that this formerly very independent, in control, late-middle age woman who hasn't let a man or a relationship detrimentally affect her for years, is now suddenly falling apart after sleeping with this raspy old coot ONCE.

Plus, the montage is just too long. The bawling starting up what feels like two dozen times is too much.

The over the top and ridiculous was the point. It was intentional and done with comedy in mind. Not every single thing needs to be super serious. Lighten up a little.

Yeah the scene went on a little too long, and just got ridiculous

Her crying built to the scene where she was weeping intermixed with laughing while writing her play, which I found both amusing and accurate for creative types, albeit fittingly campy. In other words, she turned her pain into productivity.

Eventually Harry discovers that Erica used his real-life story in The Hamptons as the basis for her successful play.
