shareMcGraw noted that he's compelled to expand his audience because he has "grave concerns for the American family" and is "determined to help restore a clarity of purpose as well as our core values."
Then he might want to just stop making programs altogether because I really don't think he is helping anyone.
I disagree. His exposing idiots who are in "love" with on-line connections they never met yet send hundreds of thousands of dollars to scammers alone is priceless. God knows how many fools are parted with their money and left destitute to some Nigerian scammer.
That isn't related to family issues though. I am cynical if the guests are even real but I doubt the value in bringing a distraught family onto TV and having them discuss personal details. It would be interesting if someone did a follow up on these families to see how they went afterwards and the effect of their TV appearance.
That said I'm not American so maybe it's no big deal over there.
I read today that his program has provided 35 million (dollars) worth of professional treatments to patients, including airfare and some distant rehabilitation facilities where the guests stay as long as required, even if it's months to break an addiction.
But that does that outweigh the damage caused by appearing on his show? What happens to these people afterwards, they apply for a job "Hey aren't you that nut case from Dr Phil?!"

Oh, fuck off, McGraw!
Yep if he was sincere he would drop the money making aspect of it all and just practice quietly not via TV. I still doubt that his guests were real people anyway. I think many of them were just actors and people seeking to be on TV.
shareNever seen it.
