Has anything been said about why they cast a nearly 30 year old woman for the role?

Thinking about her age took some away from the movie for me, because I get stuck on stupid things.

I know that they often do that in movies about high school, but if they truly intended on making this into a TV series, is picking a 30 year old to play an 18 year old a good idea?

I know a girl that took acting lessons with me in a class. she is 26 and played a 14 year old but she was about 23 at the time. I believe a lot of these "women" in their mid 20s to early 30s should not play teens. Men do, too. I can see a 20 year old playing teens, but not these older people! They need to stop and I think Angela looked way too old for Carrie!
