Gooding's acting so bad it was comedic in places.

I was very surprised by Gooding's performance, especially given his brilliant past performances. His performance in Boys in the hood(or however it was spelled) was about the best acting job I've ever seen. Yet his performance in Radio was easily outshined by Sean Penn's in I am Sam, and even by Adam Sandler's in Punch Drunk love.

The movie overall was cute enough, I guess, but it just wasn't as touching as many others I've seen. It was too formulaic and too self-indulgent. Not bad, but just not very good at all.

If you've been in contact with autistic persons. (I have a son with autism) you would see Cuba Gooding Jr's performance is dead-on. I am sam was a different character entirely. There isn't just one kind of handicaps/mental illnesses, just like no two people are the same (you would rate this movie a 1 and I would rate it a 10)

I disagree, I actually think he did amazing

This poster made me want to cry. I have had to grow up with 2 autistic sisters and his performance just hit the mark so perfectly, it was the greatest acting I have ever seen.

Cuba was amazing, he should have been nominated for an oscar! Anybody who thinks he sucked is an ignorant prick!

Well I'm a victim of circumstance!
I thought you call it your pecker?

Yeah, Cuba Gooding Jr.'s portrayal of a black guy in Boyz N The Hood was really breaking out of the box. That's like saying Nathan Lane plays a really believable homosexual in the Birdcage.

I thought this was one of the better performances in his career, to be honest. I don't understand how you can cast a non-fictional account as "formulaic", either.

Since you consider the performance "comedic" in places, I'd have to suggest that it has more to do with your insensitivity and prejudice against people who are mentally challenged. Maybe you just like laughing at retards. Go with that instead of bagging on a decent acting job.

Man I couldn't agree more!

All the individuals complaining of his performance OBVIOUSLY have never met a mentally retarded person.

He did an excellent job.

Obviously everyone has different tastes in movies but those calling this 'comedic' are either grossly juvenile or equipped with very limited comprehension.

He wasn't bad but he didn't try hard enough for an oscar nom or win

My wife and I both felt the same way that it looked very forced and over the top. Also, his teeth were very fake looking and distracting. It appears from other posts that this may be an accurate portrail, but to us it looked like bad acting as well.
